Box Hill must be glad there season is over. Seems Boroondara folding meant the top of the table levelled out a bit and the bottom two got weaker.

Last round of the season and finals places still not settled. Really just depends on Souths as you would think powerhouse to defeat uni.

Would assume this is the way it's going to play out. Possible Morrabbin to smash Footscray as they did in Round 9 though. Going to be some interesting games.

Powerhouse - Have to win by as much as possible, pretty simple.

Souths - Know if they lose they are pretty much out.

Footscray - Can afford to lose but need to try keep it as tight as possible. Very dangerous if they try to play a tight defensive game they are not used to against Morrabbin who are in pretty good form. (Have not lost since round 8)

You are probably right. Some of the games are going to be rip snorters.

Kev did you play at Melbourne at the weekend?

Nope, was linesman for the 2nd half of the 4ths game (Other venue). Sprained my ankle 5 weeks ago and hoping to get back this week. Only started training last week and the pitch on Saturday was to inconsistent so would have been a bit of a risk.

Correct I think this is how it will play out. Can't see Souths beating Melbourne (71-0 at this stage last year I think it was, yes vastly different teams I know).

As for the top three, it doesn't really matter who goes where, the week after is going to be tough as all 4 that get through will be capable of beating each other - just the way it should be!

Cracking game that one! Melbourne supporters were pretty vocal all the way up until the final whistle then stone cold silence....

Was a good game, Ref could have done a bit more to control the game. He lost control in the Powerhouse v Moorabbin game the previous week.

Some very bad calls both ways, will be glad to get decent Ref's come finals time who actually watch the breakdown instead of taking a guess.

The referees have generally improved across the board, however it comes down to a numbers issue. We try to provide good referees as far down the games as possible, however with nearly 80 games a weekend when juniors and schools are on, with only 100 registered referees, it gets difficult.

Also, as terrible as it sounds, it was a 4th grade game. The VRU ranks the games in terms of importance and the last document I saw had the games ranked:
  1. Prem 1 (4 games)
  2. Prem 2 (4 games)
  3. Colts (3 games)
  4. Div 2A (3-4 games)
  5. U18 (5 games)
  6. 3rd Divison (3 games)
  7. Prem 3 (4 games)
  8. Div 2B (3-4 games)
  9. Prem 4 (4 games)
So when you look at it like that you have 30 or so games ranked before the Prem 4 games. Whist our ranks are getting better and better the depth can only go so far.

So in theory a 4th grade game should get the 31st, 32nd, 33rd, 34th ranked referees appointed to it, although with people unavailable due to injury, commitments outside of rugby, family, work etc that probably doesn't happen.

One way to get better referees is to head to a green shirt program and give it a go. I went down to help out my old club whilst I was injured and refereed for 6 months whilst playing and decided I would give up playing I enjoyed it that much.

Yeah I know it's ranked low, at least he was bad both ways. Not ready to give up playing for the whistle just yet.

Was a great game of rugby yesterday, Powerhouse defeated Footscray 15-12. Footscray had the chances early but struggled get the points. Powerhouse scored 2 try's early in the second half and than defended as Footscray attacked from everywhere.

Any chance Hegarty is able to play finals, Powerhouse number 10 was knocked out and it didn't look to good for him.
