Quins easily accounted for House without getting out of 3rd gear. House had a lot of ball but couldn't get past the line or crack the defensive wall. Quins were pretty good on counter as well, quick turn over for about 3/4 of their tries. Far better in the contact zone!

Some interesting match ups this week.
Footscray v Power House
Moorabbin v Melbourne Uni
Melbourne v Endeavour Hills
Harlequins v Box Hill
Sth Districts v Bye

No matter what way the results go the top 4 aren't going to change this weekend. Who would have tipped that Endeavour would be 4th going into the 2nd half of the season?

Not sure anyone would have outside of the club..they always threaten but to date haven't produced. Good to see that they have held onto some young guys instead of them being picked up by Quins, Rams, etc..

Quins should pip Box Hill, House and the Doggies is the other interesting match up, both desperate to stay with the Rams and have a crack for 5th.

Table at the end of the first round of matches. Battle for 4th is still on between 4 sides, however Footscray probably have the slimmest chance.

Endeavour Hills v Melbourne Uni
Moorabbin v Harlequins
Power House v Sth Districts
Box Hill v Melbourne
Footscray v Bye

Some important games this weekend. Box Hill will be looking to bounce back after getting done by Quins, Melbourne will look to solidify 2nd place. Moorabbin will want to knock Quins off to keep in touch with Endeavour.
Endeavour v Uni will have some big implications on the ladder for this week, and moving forward.

I've only heard some rumors about stuff. However I know at least of 4 of their 1st grade side from last year are at other clubs this year.

Is there a reason Uni is so crap this season?

most of the first grade from last year have gone, only two or three regulars remain. some have gone to other Dewar Shield teams, others have followed Brad Mika to his new gig, some back to NZ. they are are in a "Rebuilding phase" - again. early on their better younger players were with the Rebels U20's and now Leota and Uelese are with the Oz 20's.

You won't see Pati for a while, but Jordan will be back shortly.

On that, good to see that there were 6 local lads playing in the Aus 20s last night. All out of the Victorian pathway and great kids deserving their reward for years of hard work. Hopefully they bring back their skills to the Dewar Shield!

BH v Melbourne as our match of the round, think Melbourne will take this one in a close game.

House to sneak into 5th this weekend....bonus points coming in handy!

It's more that draw that's coming in handy. You and Moorabbin have lost the same amount of games and got the same BPs, but the draw against EH that you came from a fair way down in the last 20 has helped a lot. If they had lost that game then being 5th would be out of the question at the moment.

BH v Melbourne should be a belter of a game, unless it turns out like the Melb v Quins game which neither side wanted to lose instead of a game either side tried to win.

The race for 4th spot has a big weekend. Concern for Rams and EH is there 2nds are getting pumped each week and with the typical mid year injury tolls mounting this could really hurt them over the next 8 weeks. PH 2nds are doing well being in 3rd place so should be able to provide better cover for their 1sts. PH needs a big scalp, when they played the 5 teams above them all they got was 1 draw in the first round.

Rebels players are on holidays so of the regulars players Quins lose Cummins and Asquith though noticed he hasn't played last 3 weeks (injured?), EH lose Silivia, Unicorns lose Snowden and House lose Crocker.

BH will have to settle for 3rd as Quins would need to drop 3 games and Unicorns 2 games during the next 8 rounds and I just can't see that happening for either team though they have to play each other still.

Don't know how it happened but of their 7 remaining games QUINS have 5 home games to come. They don't drop many games out at Ashwood.

All 3 teams hunting for that 4th spot will have to take points off the teams above where they can, I can't see them beating Melb/Quins/BH. Big games coming up when they play each other, finals before the finals!

Quins are the VRU's Collingwood....?

I don't get the Collingwood reference? All it means is they played 6 of their first 9 games away and still managed to win them all.
