Wales vs Australia, 5 November 2016, (1:30am 6 November AEDT) @ Millenium Stadium

A mutterer

Chilla Wilson (44)
torn about hodge going back to wing as he and speight both made some pretty poor decisions.

if kerevi comes through i'd like to see kerevi/folau in the centres it looked good on the weekend.

up front don't expect any changes except for mum, although sio probably needs a bit of a hairdryer to lift his game.

im calling it early - the tmo will be the mvp.

I not sure Folau at 13 is a very good idea at all. It is a real specialist defensive position, and if he not comfortable at 15, I reckon wing would be better place, he can come into line from blindside a lot more and doesn't have as much problem if he drifts out of game now and then, which I tend to think he does.

He was actually at 12 in attack on Saturday, 15 in defence.

The citing Commissioner and judiciary has actually done a huge favour for the forum as well, because we won't have to hear all the same old arguments of why he shouldn't be selected and then the bleating after the team is named questioning why he's there.

A bit of clear air for GAGR :)

For the record I don't think Mum is as bad as some make out. Also there aren't exactly other options out there demanding selection based on superior form IMO.

It's hard to compare form in test matches to form at the NRC, but we do know what Mumm offers at test level and it's not much beyond being quite good in defending mauls. On the other hand, Ross Haylett-Petty has been in quite outstanding form for the Spirit at both lock and No 6. I would be willing to bet on him as a development player on the EOYT rather than regurgitating Dean Mumm when he probably has a limited time left near the top level anyway.

In the meantime, Fardy is better value although I doubt he will make the 2019 RWC as well.

I thought Folau was used very effectively on the weekend. He attacked well from 12, despite having little back up at times. I also thought Phipps did well.

So Mumm presumably misses this game and forces Cheika to pick a real 6. Much as I resent mumm being sanctioned for what was completely milked by the diver, retallick, at least t forces our coach's hand.

I thought the balance in the forwards was the best we have seen all year. All the players did their prescribed roles and each prescribed role was appropriate for the position they were playing.
If Fardy is picked for Wales then we lose some lineout ability and gain some on ball pressure. Does this help the balance of the pack?
Balance was best noticed with Moore able to get involved in the game to a greater degree.
I am wary of the anti Mumm sentiment. He may not be the messiah but also; he's not a naughty mummy's boy either.

I was surprised how little he offloads and when he does how bad the pass is.

I noticed that about Moore as well and thought that's more like the old Moore.

The balance in the loose forwards was good IMO and it really showed in how well the Aussies did in securing their ruck ball.

I know you're a fan BR, but I just haven't seen anything in Fardy's form/play this season that has any more upside than Mumm this year.

And as the stats for the game show, only three turnovers won in the whole match, one of which was by Poey in his first breakdown after entering the game. Poey then also won another later, so only one turnover won by the whole pack without Poey. Not a very good indication of balance I'd say. Fardy at least provides more on ball play than Mumm and usually can be counted on to win a turnover or three in a match. Sadly, also gives away penalties but often that comes down to who is refereeing the game.

As I said above, I don't think either Fardy or Mumm will be around for the 2019 RWC, so start looking at alternatives. I'd like to see both RHP and Dempsey get time with the Wallabies this EOYT.

No i think he's playing the best he's ever played at this level but i don't think that's better than Fardy would have played.
Fardy's had the rest he needed and if Cheika could just get the rest of the back row right we'd be looking good.
The kiwis are quite happy to have world class 6s and 7s on the bench so should we be instead of picking them in other positions.

Really? Fardy could get you a turnover or three a game? Also I think Saturday's turnover stat needs to be looked at in the context of how little possession the ABs.

Even so, the problem still remains about what happens once that turnover is won. There are still issues with offloads, support play, quick realignment from defence to attack. Beale is probably the best you guys have in reacting to a turnover and can exploit opportunities.

Poaching has been on the decline all year in all games involving all teams. Its definitely a theme with the refs.

Folau won't defend at 13. He'll defend at the back to control opponents' tactical kicking.
