Fardy's maul defense puts him in contention he's the best at it besides perhaps Skelton. Plus he's shown that he is unfazed at test level. He hasn't had amazing form this season but he's the caller in the best line out in super rugby without having very experienced locks besides Carter.

I would think he'd start but there are a lot of other interesting options which is always a good thing.

On the Beale discussion, I would be very surprised if he didn't make the WC squad. Here is a player that can seemingly can make a Wallaby squad when it is inconceivable that he shouldn't. Resilience counts for something here

Yeah I'd seriously be considering Tomane over JOC (James O'Connor) at this stage. His high ball skills and dominate tackling would certainly come in handy, and Mitchell can play as a hybrid fullback type winger anyway.

Whoever they pick in the forwards I hope they use the Reds scrummaging technique. I like their little jink towards the loose head's side as a pack then driving straight it really does dominate when they do it as an 8.

So I've been a big advocate of McCalman over Higginbotham this year but I just delved into the stats and it paints a pretty picture for Higgers. He pretty much has McCalman covered everywhere except his error rate.

Both boys have a pretty impressive completed tackle percentage. Qwerty may I ask where you're getting these stats from? I'm not doubting their authenticity but I wouldn't mind a play around myself.

I just did Vaea and it shows he has ZERO lineout takes! Is that true? For reference, Skelton has 17.

I think that rules out Vaea regardless of any other stats - especially with Skelton in the team.

Don't get me wrong I am a big Higgers fan. But he runs far wider than McCalman does. McCalman's carries are impressive. My backrow has changed from a couple of weeks ago.

In Fardy's defence, he's never been great on the stats but his impact at Test level is superb. I doubt McMahon's stats will translate to Test level - especially run metres.

Although 10 turnovers conceded is a worry from Fardy, seems quite high.

The Welsh 2012 series backrow. It was strong.

I don't want to harp on Fardy, and will preface this by saying he's a class player, will be in the squad etc etc etc

But only 3 defenders beaten is a damning statistic considering we need our 6 to be a front-line ball runner. Just backs up my impression that he isn't doing enough with ball in hand.

Yep this is my back-row, if you add in guys like Skelton it gives the Wallabies the physicality and size to compete at the ruck and maul that we haven't had in recent years.

Despite how lauded the Reds' scrum is, apparently their scrum success is 13th in the competition. Followed by the Brumbies then the Cheetahs.

Though the Reds' lineout is second to only one team, the Brumbies. Which is a bit weird. Obviously scrum strength doesn't translate to lineout success.
