What is the story with Palu? I had heard he had his contract knocked back in Japan a while back but he is still definitely around Moore Park.

Any chance of seeing him in 2016?

Yeh failed his medical. Tahs may (hopefully) throw him a lifeline, at a discount, the whole 'long time servant etc'. Would be handy impact off the pine..

Tahs should go with this as their backline to begin the year to give Bernard a break
9 Phipps
10 Horwitz
11 Matty Carraro
12 Beale
13 Kellaway
14 Horne
15 Izzy
Love the Wicks 10, 11, 12 & 13 combo. Plenty of points in that backline unit.

The more Wix in the Tahs, the less they are available for Shute Shield duties.

I'm yet to be convinced that Horwitz is ready for the step up to 10 at Super Rugby level. I don't think the NSW Country Eagles used him as a 10 in 2015 NRC.

Yes a Marlins back line of Lane Hodge Dennis did the number on Horwitz / Beale Kells last year.

Surely not a combo with a whole lot of playing time together.
Wouldn't having Horne at 13 and Kellaway at 15 be a better option?

There isnt a lot of depth experience-wise in the Tahs backline - presumably their second choice in some positions involves moving someone - Beale for Izzy for instance and Horne goes into 12.
I would think Guilford would start and Kellaway and others will be eased in to this company. Without even looking at the draw it would be dangerous to start with Horwitz - if they were thinking Foley needs a rest they'd move Beale in one and work it out form there, surely?

When is Foley due back in Sydney, who is the backup 5/8?

There is a lot to like about Horwitz, but don't throw him to the lions just yet.
Mate,if Horwitz is the answer, you are asking the wrong question.

He is average 10 at SS level, and no standout at 12.
This is his 4th pre season with the Tahs,They have improved him in contact, but nowhere else.
Time to move on.

Whilst I don't think he's Super XV ready, every game I've seen him play at SS level he's been pretty dominant.

He was also awarded player of the year 2015. Whether or not you think he deserved it, he's certainly one of the better SS players going around.

For what it is worth the Waratahs are saying:

The 2016 extended playing squad will be announced this week, which includes two key player signings.

Fotu and Perry perhaps?

Tahs have some solid Backrowers, though the depth created by Wilkins and Dempsey is more an all rounder utility player whom stand out at u20 level, (think Schatz, Browning, Quirk, Butler, Cottrell) ,

but I can see Gibson wanting to keep a point of difference impact player in the Palu mould (Aeulua, most likely at a affordable price$), in and around the squad, as well as a traditional specialist backup to hooper (perry)

EPS players aren't paid very much, it's minimum wage as far as rugby players are concerned. EPS more of a development contract where they gain access to coaches, facilities, supplements and training gear. It would be a massive pay cut for Fotu if he were in that squad and I'd find it very surprising.

Creative accounting perhaps..
