What the absolute fuck?

Is this confirmation Cox is looking to sell?

Either way it has private ownership so whats the ARU to do?

Some what confusing.

Since when has the issue for the Rebels been ownership or is this a sign Cox wants out?

Would the ARU have to sign off on the sale if it was to go ahead?

What doesRocky Elsom know about running a rugby company?
I reckon that's Dismal Pillock's work: the whole rugby community is so stressed that no bizarre suggestion is to implausible to be rejected.
By the way: this story is proof we jumped the shark.
When does Godwin's law kick in?

Would need to be at least 6 teams playing each other 3 times (the A-League and NBL both do this) imo. Add in Fiji for 7 even.

Think the 5 we have is plenty,

Keep it provincial/state based. Simple, everyone understands it. League can run a 2 team comp and it works. So 5 team should work,

Its actually something League and AFL could never do (a state based comp that involves the 5 biggest states). So some merit in Rugby working to its strengths.

Think, where people get confused is trying to combine NRC with a Super/Provincial comp. They are very different and we need both.

As I posted earlier, the Super component comes out of this and the top 3 go on to play the top NZ and SA and bottom 2 play Oceania. This is where the foreign teams come in. Keep them out of the domestic comp till then.

Dismal's take would be much better.
The Gunston take over The Rebels, re-brand them as Gunston Gonads. The cheers write themselves. Gene-O drives the ball out each match in the ute, and Aunty Doris rules with an iron fist from the caravan box.

He brought Narabone a few years ago and helped turn them around financially. Still, compare that against an ex KPMG M&A specialist, I think I know who might have the upper hand in experience.

Still, don't doubt Rocky's passion, but there has to be a product for sale, on the right terms. At this point, I haven't seen that declared in public, and doubt we will until this saga is all over

I know right?

Is this confirmation Cox is looking to sell?

No, it appears to be an unsolicited offer.

The ARU would have sign-off on any change of ownership, I believe - I assume the plan would be to get Cox to hold off selling to the ARU and then sell when the dust settles.

In any case, it's more than a little bizarre.

No indication that he wants out, just a statement that he will not sell if it means the Rebels are wound up.

Think it's more of a fishing exercise, this time on two fronts (DT and OZ).

Does this mean it’s time to up the ante on the stupid?

Yeah, it's strange.

I admire the Rock's intentions, good Melbourne boy that he is, but it seems more a reaction to the vacuum of information than anything concrete.

I think we're talking more of the Coaches Nadir.
Ralph?
Didn't know he played rugby.
Cheika seemed to agree with you that it could hardly be called a summit.
Apart from having done it before?
Didn't know that - but why would he want to buy a club that may cease to have a comp to play in?

not bad. has a certain alliteration to it. although in all likelihood, the actual final name would be a LOT more offensive and would likely be culled from the Alltime Crim 1st XV thread.

also, not sure the Gusntons woukd have a bar of a fancy pants place like Melbourne.

perhaps they could brianstorm (sic) a hostile headhunt of the Auckland Blues Board of Directors?

There is another article published tonight from Leo Schlink stating the Vic government is willing to consider assistance, but Cox needs to reaffirm his intention not to sell. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...n/news-story/182836089330f42ceeb0479e1942e2d8

Yea, saw that embedded in the Rocky article. Interesting. Perhaps Tex's idea to bomb the inbox of John Uren worked...

Regardless, looks like this pressure from multiple angles might force Coxy to declare his hand. Like a smart poker player he has kept his hand close to his chest, but it might be time to play that hand.

Certainly sounded like it was more a sounding board with others from coaching and elsewise, perhaps with an aim of distilling his own ideas about where he wants the Wallabies to go. I'm not sure anyone should see this as, in any way, a step towards proper centralised coaching academy structures as seen in NZ. But it wasn't really that clear.
