It begins. Any chance of having a season played without crowds? Or is the ticket sales vital to keep it going + travelling across countries the dangerous bit?

I would imagine that is what they're hoping for at the moment but my guess is that it will soon be shut down. A competition with so much travel is pretty hard to continue in this situation. It's only a matter of time before a team member somewhere contracts COVID-19 and a whole team needs isolation.

Australia seems to be considered one of the safer better controlled countries in the world. If anything NZ seems to be considered better than Aus. I’m not aware of any CV19 cases in RSA - though their testing and reporting systems are unlikely to be world leading.

I understand what you are saying BH but I’m hoping it is not as tragic as you suggest.

If something does happen I’d like to see a “make up” comp. while I personally would love a domestic experiment, there is little reason a “make up” comp would not involve NZ.

The Aus v NZ ODI’s will be going ahead without spectators, the Grand Prix has officially been cancelled after spectators were banned from entering the circuit.........

The AFL opener is scheduled for Thursday, and the Richmond v Carlton match tends to attract a crowd of 80,000.......... that will also likely be cancelled or played in front of an empty stadium.

Super Rugby, with all of its international travel, is going to have to shut down.

Classic. The one time the Blues turnout to maybe not be quite so sh*t, and the entire competition shuts down.

Proof that god is, indeed, a Cantabrian.

If everything settles down. In the spring leading into the Nov. window.

Insert Liverpool winning the EPL, or Leeds Utd finally getting set to be promoted back to the big time.

Surreal stuff with all of the sporting events being canned. Can only wonder, does that mean Club/School rugby being cancelled as well?

I don't really get why it is considered so unsafe to attend sporting events yet things like:

Casinos
Nightclubs
Restaurants
Pubs
Tourist attractions
Shopping centres
et al

are pretty much running business as usual.

Yeah, surely me taking the train in the morning squished up against 100s of people in a carriage is worse than any rugby game.

Well, there's a reason why Italy is in chaos while China and South Korea have gotten a hold of things. Last I heard, China only had 24 new cases on Wednesday. Italy chose to keep clubs, football matches etc open while China and SK went full lock down and only kept required services open.

Many offices around the country are moving to work from home to keep people away from public transports/the office as well.

If so BH, it’ll be ‘interesting’ to see the impacts on our RUs’ financial state. There will be cost saving in travel etc, but gate and match day income is a major part of our RUs’ financial viability/survival.

Insurances to cover? Typically ‘pandemics’ are excluded in the fine print, but who knows in these cases.

And then is Foxtel obliged to pay out to RA if there’s no games or games only behind closed doors?

And it’s not like RA is so funds rich it can bail out all 4 Aust pro RUs.

Dangerous times in every sense.

Will be interesting to see whether all the players continue getting paid at the same rate if no games are taking place.

This is going to be economically disastrous in general. Resist the urge to log in and look at your super balance!
