CAS got out of jail with a penalty goal on the bell to Edmed. CAS clicked into gear later in the game but looked tired. They tried to score off every phase earlier and gave possession away losing momentum.
They did enough to win against a well performed ISA team.
Best on ground was Reimer.

Reckon there will be a few CAS boys there for NSW.

Strong contenders:

Pollard, Dring, Fahlerty, Whiteman, Rahme, Moretti, Reimer, Molloy, Tejcek, Edmed, Ilias, Bryden and Galloway all a chance at starting NSW 1’s or 2’s.

That’s a good effort by CAS on a short turnaround, when they left nothing on the paddock v GPS. Says a lot about the mental strength of the boys to get themselves up again to eke out a win against a very good ISA side who probably came in determined to show the selectors that it’s not alll about GPS and CAS. I didn’t see the match, but am pleased to hear Reimer and Freeman (ISA) both played well, as they are excellent back rowers with a consistently high work rate.

It was a big effort under the circumstances. It's a sign of a good team when they can play below their best and still win against another good team.
There were still some very good individual performances from CAS players, even though they didn't click too well as a team on the day. So they should have a good representation of State players, announced tonight i believe.

ISA did give notice to the selectors that it's not all about GPS & CAS.

Observations not criticisms.

CAS beat GPS yet there are 20 GPS players by my count, 11 CAS.

Trinity has 5 State players yet may very well not win a CAS competition game (0/2 so far).

Waverley seems under-represented with only Moretti.

Must be many years since Knox had no-one in the NSW sides.

I think you will see Trinity defeat Knox and Cranbrook in a few weeks, and may well give Waverley a nasty scare.

I think I must have watched a different set of games thIs week. I watched CAS lead 24 nil at half time and play 1/3 of the 2nd half a man down against GPS and still win. That’s embarrassing.

Rod, very sad for many deserving boys.

Yes . Molloy deserves a spot too.. hopefully CS for him as well. Actually the CAS can put together a decent team with those that missed out.. I did expect s fair number of GPS2 lads in there.

But Bryden is the hard one to explain. No winger bested him over the 2 games and he showed some pretty good speed. I do like Tricks. He scored lots of tries but he did not face a dangerous winger in defence. I am sure he can tackle but Bryden did it on the big stage.... anyway NSW will be string

Well I hope so. But they lost to St Aloysius who lost to Waverley and were separated from Cranbrook by only a point. I hope they clean up the next three games but who knows?

Aloys only lost to Waverley by one point as well, so I wouldn't be under any assumption that Cranbrook will be an easy beat for Trinity, Waves or Aloys over the next rounds

Reality is, you could be excused for thinking that unless the CAS, and ISA, win their games by 20+, like last year 26 - blot CAS beat GPS.
If it is close then those with strong political connections will always get picked regardless of performance.
Yes, it is only 1 game but it is supposedly the best against the best, otherwise don't bother, and risk injuries.

As an outsider, I am stunned that Harry Wilson is a reserve for NSW 2, I would think there are also others.

I know there are some comments about how strong the CS team may look, but really, let's call a spade a spade, many of these players were very very badly treated.

Molloy, Bryden and Whiteman, missed out. Only politics here, worked against them, not form.

Anyway happens every year, let's hope the Aussie championships delivers the right selections!

I too am astounded by Bryden’s omission. Otherwise, I think the 20 from GPS v 11 CAS is representative of the strength of GPS 2 compared to CAS2. Without counting, I’d hazard a guess the cas boys are all or near all from CAS1, whereas the Geeps are a mix from each of 1 and 2. IMO a number of the geeps 2 boys outplayed the 1s on Tues and it sounds like they had a landslide win today, so no doubt many got to show their stuff.

Well done to all the boys selected and let’s hope the final at Riverview is NSW 1 v 2.

Sorry CNP,

Completely disagree, the CAS 1's deserved many more in both NSW 1 and 2's.
Some obvious boys didn't make either team, instead others who had very poor games were chosen, not their fault but clear preference by selectors.
CAS won both games, against 2 strong teams with little turn around time, ie 3 days, and received very poor representation.
Full Stop.
