ISA 2019

The St Augustine's boys are back from the annual game against Villanova College in Brisbane. I've heard that St Augs lost the rugby game for the first time in 15 years. Interesting.

It was the 2nds that played. Apparently the 1sts usually flog Villanova - so Papa agreed to send only the 2nds this year.
Unfortunately they had a bad start, and it went downhill from there.
Well done to Villanova College.
I am guessing next year it will be the 1sts that play

It might have something to do with the boys being at the trial yesterday. 11 of them were in the ISA 1 team and 4 were in the 2s. Not really that surprising. 4 of them made NSW 1 &2s with another in the NSWJRU 18'S team. Also missing Daniel Ala who is out injured.

Think it's a bit deeper than that. St Augs haven't played most of their firsts in this fixture for 5 years in order to keep the score close. Their 2nds and 3rds used to win easily in this game.

I've got a kid at the school and one at a GPS school . Yes its true that they dont play all boys from the one's ( depending on the strength of Villanova) but its still about winning. The contest with Villanova also involves a soccer match and the debating team.

My understanding is Auggies a had a couple of their firsts and a roughly equal split between their seconds and thirds and then lost a couple of their seconds on the day of the game. Villanova played 4 Qld schools players and an academy boy. They were the better side on the day and deserved their win

Is it true that ISA 16/1's finished lower than the 16/2's at the State tournament this weekend?

Someone told me this in passing and I just wanted to verify.

Can someone confirm?

Agree. Both the teams played well but in patches. I was out there for the games so here is my take...
ISA 1s were unlucky to lose against Presidents 2s yesterday.. they pressing the opposition line towards the end of the game at 0-0 when GPS winger intercepted to score in the corner. Their other game yesterday against CCC was poor.. they went into the game without young Kafer who played well in the first game but took a head knock so his weekend was over. They were down 12-0 after about 10 minutes through panic play, then had their 9 carded for a late tackle (fair call, poor timing and no malice in it) then lost one of their damaging backrowers to a nasty cut over the eye. Then they lost one of their other centres to what looked like a popped shoulder They clawed back a bit in the second half but the damage was done. Today they regrouped and were down 7 nil early but got their act together and ran away with it in the second half. Strong performers across all games were the 10, I think they had 2 9s who both played well The 7 looked very sharp securing some great turnover ball and the 8 was a damaging runner til he did his hand The centre (13) who did his shoulder and the 15 were also strong
The 2s lost their first game yesterday to Presidents 1s by about 0-40 and were outgunned. Their game against AiCES yesterday afternoon was a tough game with some strong running from their wingers and centres that saw them get home 19-7. The game today against CCC was physical and fast and they were unlucky to go down 18-20. They had a chance for a penalty at 18-17 with a couple of minutes to go but opted for a quick tap and soon found themselves back on their own line watching CCC slot a penalty to take the match 20-18. A couple of their best across the weekend were the 2, 5, 6 and a red headed winger 11 who can also play as a flanker
It was a tough weekend for the boys but they did their schools and the ISA proud. Given the little time they get together to prepare (my son said it’s about 3 hours total training and one trial match) as opposed to the camps and warm up games some of the other teams have it was a great effort by all involved. Hoping the results reflect their efforts when the teams are announced...

Good report BIH a fair review the red headed winger is Oliver Kemp from Stannies originally not picked in any side ( which is a mystery as he has been consistently the best on field in ISA games for years) came into the 2nds before the trial and has been one of their best.
The 2 and 5 from Stannies also Tyson Haynes 2nd year of rugby a very good hooker and Lachlan Hooper only 15 brother of Tom who had a great weekend and a particularly strong game today.

Pats vs Kinross at Breen Oval in Strathfield. Honestly no idea what the score is going to be if I'm being honest Graham Richard, but I can safely say that my son, Thomas Uren, will not be in contention as he has a mild headache so therefore, the chances of St Pats winning this week are very much decreased. It's pretty hard to win a game when you're team is carried by one guy and he's out with a very serious injury. He is expected to return for the game against St Gregs and he is asking THE BIGGEST BLOKE ON THE GREGS LINE UP to run at him straight. If you do not know what he looks like, he is a strong jawed, masculine, alpha-male with huge pecs and a killer booty. Whilst he is intimidating in stature, his nature is more aligned with that of a cat - opting to drink milk rather than water, and purr rather than talk. Be wary on this bloke for the rest of the ISA season, because he's promised to rip Gregs to shreds. Keep posted for more updates on this beast

Having been a keen spectator of schoolboy rugby for a number of years now, the declining participation rate, especially at ISA schools, has been a concern of mine. It appears we (ie Australia) may not be alone https://www.foxsports.com.au/rugby/...l/news-story/c2e574c33968fa2b4067aa95fccdd3b3
Thoughts anyone?

At least they are addressing the issues. There was also another article during the week from Sir Graham Henry addressing the issue surrounding weight for age, which is probably the catalyst for kids to move Basketball. Im surprised that soccer hasnt had the influence its had here. Basketball has definitely played apart, but the numbers of kids playing soccer in NSW is huge.

Sure the gregs game will be quite a hit out... will they continue their luck against oakhill this week?

Pappa has nothing to do with the coaching now is what I've heard. Brian Burke ex Oakhill now coaches the firsts and runs the programme.

He still sits on the sideline during the opens games and casts an eye on the junior grades looking for talent. His role has changed he is Assistant Principal Sport and Co-curricular. No coaching as i understand it, but plenty of the coaches would be tapping in to his knowledge.
