Yes we would, although they'll get one this week for Back to Newington Day as it's a mandatory attendance for all students. But no soccer in 1979 so the whole of the school pretty much played rugby then.

New played soccer in the 70's but as a second sport in the afternoon - they were very good.

One of younger old boy spectators at the Joeys v Riverview game was taken away by medicab - it looked like he had collapsed - am hoping that he is OK. Any news?

Anyone pick up on the vicious neck roll at 23:54?? I don't think he meant to grab his neck as he wasn't looking up, but looked a bit aggressive, luckily Bird (8) wasn't hurt/phased by it. Don't like the look of the exact same player, Robinson (2), at 42:57 mouthing off at the Riverview defender after Joeys last try.

I've watched this lad for a while - plays hard but I think he should make sure he's not crossing the line. Didn't cause any harm and there's probably things from the View boys that my biased eyes didn't pick up on, just something I noticed.

yes that Joeys 2 is a quality player ... however I saw a similar display against Kings in pre season game... wouldn't have been tolerated a generation ago

anyways I am tipping Kings in an upset ... Joeys actually carrying a few injuries is my mail, and Sualli could prove the difference

definitely match of the round ....and be interested if Kings red head Goldsmith again dominates the scrummaging

so my tip is Joeys gets beat ... but then beats Scots in last round. So another shared title is my prediction.

You can always see evil in the world. Good to watch finally and see some detail. Missed most of it as I was battling with View Old boys who are and always will be, lunatics. Fun day.

yep Louis is a bit yappy - but you need to look at this in context. There was a lot of "interaction" between him and certain View forwards throughout the game. After one such, he was behind View's line surrounded by View players who shouldered and elbowed him as he was getting back to position.
No real malice on either side, just some good old argy-bargy. I'm sure they would have a good laugh together in the function afterwards.
As for "vicious neck roll"? one arm under No8's left shoulder, other across the back of his neck. Have a closer look, particularly at the ref who was looking right at it and saw nothing illegal.

Pretty silly post to be honest. Things happen like that on the field and words get said both ways. Just look at some of the footage after Riverview seemingly had won the game the last couple of years only to be pipped on the bell. No doubt they had copped it under rucks etc along the way - it goes for both teams. Phil Kearns famously did it once v the All Blacks - it can happen even though not always a good look. I wouldn't assume that Robinson wasn't baited.

I don't think you should be bringing up illegal plays either - prior years these have occurred (again both ways) and the officials and/or the Scots coach will shine the light on them.

In any case, the rugby has been very good between the sides for many years and last Saturday was no different. The wheel will eventually turn as history demonstrates. Joeys just having a good run at the moment.

Yes of course, I understand in this context, there's always going to be things going on either way, which is why I'm not too fussed on it. I enjoy the argy bargy but just looked to me like he yanked his neck down quite aggressively, but maybe it's just the angle. As I said, I don't think it was deliberate or any malice in it but wouldn't want him to start employing this clean out tactic regularly.

Not trying to see the evil, I never am, I like to stay balanced (I think) just stood out to me upon watching the footage and wanted other's opinions, that's what the footage is good for - really appreciate your work Sidesteppa.

Yes he gets away with this style and has done for a number of years, gets under the skin of opposition teams very well.

Enjoy it while it lasts at school , playing against the big boys soon.....

I think it is fair to say Louis is the sort of player you love to have on your team. He plays very close to the line and is key to the Joeys forward pack. Offers that much-needed grunt. I say fair game to him, and I dare say you won't see a different style against Kings and Scots. (Not a joeys fan)

Scots have to beat Newington this Saturday for that to occur. No sure thing.

That's for sure QH. Scots been lucky to get away with their last two wins and Newington are a very good side, I'm going to back Newington, by a few points too.

Earlier in the season I rated the Scots side (particularly their sizeable forward pack) very highly but their performances have let down that hope a little bit. Would love to see them string together a great match on Saturday, but I think Newington may be too strong.

Let's not forget as bad as Scots played the last two games they found a way to win. Whilst no certainties this weekend they have to be favorites and no doubt if the backline clicks like it has a few times the final round will be amazing

Should be a great game on Saturday at Stanmore. Scots always formidable and as they've shown are able to come from behind and snatch late wins. Newington have played well in all 3 GPS games, a big win over Shore to blow out the holiday cobwebs and a very good win against Kings last term. The loss to Joeys looked worse than it was as for most of the game there was less than a try in it and the lead changed on a number of occasions.

Agree that Newington can win this which would set up a final round of fixtures with many possibilities.

Should be a great game on Saturday at Stanmore. .

There is the key to this game. The venue. Scots supporters do not travel as they normally get lost west of the cross city tunnel and heaven forbid they cross the Harbour Bridge. Newington at home, with all the rightfully so celebrations, will only lift the team to perform in front of their faithful students and rowdy old boys. In fact, I am almost tossing up forgoing a trip to Parramatta to head into town and see this game. It will be a cracker. Also, the pork roll and outstanding BBQ has nothing to do with it too.
