New Zealand vs Australia Oct 11 2020 Bledisloe Cup

I wouldn't drop Paisami for Petaia for next week. I thought he went quite well and defended terrifically. Loved the hit on Moung who looked a little rattled.

Yeah I was waiting for a trademark Paisami shoot out and miss but he was solid if not good.

I thought that was a cracking game.

Congrats to Hooper on the 100.

Pick the same team next weekend.

Largely agree but i'd love to swap AA and Tupou so that Tupou comes on and monsters in the final 20.

I think you've probably got to drop FF (Folau Fainga'a) too unless he can demonstrably fix the lineout throwing.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here..

In case you weren't aware, of the seven previous Wallabies coaches in the professional era, four of them (Rod Macqueen, Eddie Jones, Robbie Deans and Michael Cheika) all beat the All Blacks in their first attempt.

Deans won his first match against the All Blacks 34-19, Cheika won his first match 27-19.

This was a draw.

yes I think we might have all been oblivious to the conditions against us in the second half. However I think Uelese is a better player than Fainga’a, and I said on the new match thread I’d be inclined to start Lolesio at 12 as To'omua kicks the ball back to the opposition too much, usually at crucial times. I’d pick the same 23 otherwise except if Petaia is fit he has to be in there somewhere.

He's had one bad game, with a new set of colleagues and a new lineout system. He's been the best thrower all season, let's not soil the sheets just yet.

Hunter did well - and was going to say a fit petai you put in but Hunter did so well I would almost be tempted to put petai on the bench.

The only counterpoint I'd make to this is Jake White's philosophy on bringing players back from injury (which I think is particularly applicable to very fragile players like Petaia). If you start him, and he gets re-injured, you can sub him off. If you bring him on at half time and he gets injured, now what are you going to do?

Loved the game - was literally on my feet for 20mins.

Does Petaia fit on the bench next week? Probably for Hodge, with Petaia covering wings and 13. People will say ‘you can’t drop Hodge’ after his near miss, but you really can’t keep Petaia out of the side for a bloke who’s biggest tick is the off chance he gets a shot to win the game from over 50m.

Yeah, probably a bit premature with calls to change the midfield. Would be nice to see Lolesio get some time though. I guess he could replace one or the other depending on the match situation, score points use JOC (James O'Connor), protect them use To'omua. Only changes should probably be managing workloads, ie; AAA for Tupou as there’s not much splitting them at the moment.

Let's enjoy a positive moment in Bledisloe history without the bleak, pessimistic bleating. Cheers.

It would have be for either Daugunu or Paisami unfortunately, they both played great games. But he has too be selected.

And how many of those coaches were in charge of the 7th ranked side in the world and managed a draw in Wellington?

This is a big result for the Wallabies no matter how you cut it. Perhaps some Kiwi supporters need to spend a little less time making condescending posts about how the Wallabies should just aim to do well post 2023 and a little more on how the ABs are going to arrest their downward slide.
