I assume Brothers, UQ and Easts start as early favourites for 2021?
I wouldn’t expect much out of Easts. Probably the biggest disappointment in Colts Rugby last year to be honest and don’t figure to be much better. Outside of Brothers and UQ , I have Bond, Jeeps , Wests and South’s ahead of them - probably in that order.

Although, with Bond , it will depend on how many 19 and 20 year olds (of quality) they want to play in grade. Depth is thin on a ho hum 2021 intake. Bond could be middling at best and sort of ranked Easts toward the back but ahead of Norths and Sunnybank.

For mine Bond will take the next step this year lost a really tough semi last year to Brothers at the bell and were the only team to beat UQ during the regular season. They have recruited well and have good coaching.
UQ and Brothers will be UQ and Brothers.
then it is between Easts, Souths and West’s for fourth.

Fair enough - but I think you (and
perhaps a lot of others) are sleeping on Jeeps.

I don’t think they will be top tier but I reckon they can be there in the final 4

Expecting Souths to slide big time this year, hearing they’re battling with numbers and a tug of war with premier grade coaches. I hate to say it but Norths of all places actually has the strongest coaching group, not sure how they’ll go with players though.

Any indication on what clubs the various school masses are gravitating towards? I know we've been hit hard by the majority of MCA boys going to either Brothers or RL. I would assume the Churchie crew are all down at Tigerland, lots of BBC boys at UQ etc. what about the others?

Norths were pretty dominant in the first half trial against Souths leading by 4/5 tries to nil, but second half more even as changes made and the magpies tightened up their defence. Not reading too much into this result as round 1 both sides will be a different proposition. Some good rugby played but typical trial game and hard to get a read on the form guide.

Brothers and GPS at Albany Creek was a very close fought game. The GPS scrum overpowered the butcher stripes whilst Brothers' backs appears to be their strength. GPS fought back from a slow start and shocked a few onlookers to lead at half time. From what I saw, there is still a few missing from both sides (or maybe they are playing grade) but GPS look a much improved side in 2021 with a fullback who kicks the ball a mile and scored a great individual try. I think the final score was about 40-30 to GPS.

Should be an interesting round 1.

Bond University v Norths (Bond Uni)
Easts v Sunnybank (Wilson Field)
GPS v Souths (Ashgrove)
University v Brothers (Uni)

I have the following tips for round 1, no knowledge of current teams but am sure there will be a lot of player movement in each club as teams are selected.

Bond will be too strong at home against Norths, but this will not be an easy match. Great to hear Norths have a competitive team but will need depth to last the whole season.
Easts over Sunnybank by 15+, Easts are strong and fit in the back row and will play the full 70 minutes
First upset of the year- GPS to start the 2021 season with a win over Souths
Grand Final rematch- Brothers in trials have looked strong and may get the win over UQ who are building a strong Colts team but need more games.

Yeah have to agree with the jeeps side comments; very competitive against a mistake ridden performance by brothers.

So Bond, Easts (at home advantage), GPS & Brothers (hold the ball n win!).

Does any one have any knowledge of the Souths squad. I havent heard much except they have Andrew Romano.
I doubt UQ will be as competitive as they have been for the last few years. Like Brothers a large portion of boys have moved up to grades.

I beleive the squads that have a large contingent of 3rd year Colts will be more succesful through the season.
U20s is a much bigger step up than the U19 colts comp of previous years. The Physical differnce of a 19/20 year old to a 17/18 year old can be significant. It is also the ability to play and train at a high level of intensity that 3rd years players bring to the squad. I would also suggest that last year teams played more of a strategic game, with more emphasis on set piece than the previous years, perhaps a sign of maturity.
Wouldn’t place too much emphasis on who played where for UQ during trials. Quite a few of their regular Prems weren’t available during trials and as a result quite a few Colts players were up in Reggies/Prems.

Similarly with the emphasis on how many 20 year olds you have in Colts , the better ones will be pressing to play grades .
