Super Rugby AU Grand Final - Reds v Brumbies - Saturday 8th May 2021

At the same time that Valetini was yellowed (could have been red) Fainga'a could easily have gone for no arms missile tackle to the legs.

Tom Wright should have at least got yellow for a very nasty neck roll in the first half.

Nic White could easily have been penalised, if not carded for sliding in knees first to Jordan Petaia.

Sio set up crooked all game and the one time the Brumbies got a scrum penalty they basically did so for being fucking shit and getting monstered.

No ref has ever been impeccable. He made errors both ways. Both teams had chances to win.

Got to expect with speed of the game the Ref will make the odd error therefore judged on overall match and to me Nic Berry still one of the best refs going around

That was something to be part of last night, edge of the seat, screamathon. Big thanks for the half time band Furnace and the Fundamentals, they fired the crowd up even higher for the second half somehow.

That last 8 minutes was the most frantic, brutal, and chaotic rugby I have ever seen live by a long way.

Biebs done good.

Was pissed off with Horan giving away the Super Rugby Ao score, tho.

Lucky I missed that - reminded me need to see end of that game as had to leave to go out 30 mins into the game. Hence time to log off and watch that so don't see the score

That was my whole point. He made mistakes - sure. But they went both ways. Trying to pretend the Brumbies got dudded is just taking away from what a great game it was.
Go look at the half time comments...

Also, anyone know the story on Zander? I was watching him in QPR like 2 weeks ago looking like he had been grazing in the good paddock. Last night he was back at that fighting weight he was at earlier in the season killing it.

Has he been injured? Just shows how hard Thorn has got the players are working.

Well, that was great watching, probably not as tense for a neutral observer, although I was pleased to see the Reds win, a just result from the steady building of a young team they've done over the last four years.
One question, with eight against six, why wouldn't you just keep packing a scrum? Surely you would keep drawing the penalty, and at some point that becomes a penalty try. I mean, the way it was finally decided was more satisfactory, but all they needed was a knock-on and it was a win to the Brumbies.

Andrew Mertens loves to do that too. Can't they be told by the producer to concentrate at what's in front of them, as I'm sure a lot of Stan subscribers would like to watch the Kiwi game the next day.

The Betoota Advocate bloke was a bit odd, a large chunk of the crowd were scratching their heads

Furnace and Fundamentals started poorly with YMCA but ended well with Sweet Caroline

A WIN is a WIN is a WIN for the Reds .
Go suck it up disgruntled Brumbies supporters - that's 3 out of 3:p

As a Brumbies supporter, all I have to say is TANIELA TUPOU!

Brumbies would have won easily if he played for us. Dominated the scrum, and immense around the park, for 80mins!

Can't argue the Reds aren't the better side, 3 from 3 is definitive.

It’s an interesting one. I think the consensus on here was that with Ala'alatoa v Zander there was a possibility of the Brumbies getting a penalty.

Yeah mentioned it in wallabies thread, scrum kept collapsing and it was very close to a penalty lottery based on whose knee is thought to hit the ground first.

I don’t doubt AAA was forcing the collapse, and rightfully so they were undermanned and were trying to convince Berry it was the Reds collapsing. Brumbies had nothing to lose by doing that at that point. Reds risked coughing up the ball in a short arm.

A few re-watch observations:

Paisami should be number one priority to lock down long term for the Reds and RA. He was really missed last night, the centre pairing didn’t do much in attack at all.

Petaia, hmm any mail on this injury? Might be an early crow but I feel like he may leave our shores when it comes time for his next deal. Had a sub par year and RA aren’t going to throw big top up coin to a bloke with his horror injury run. I’m sure his management are thinking the same thing. Also alarming that Paisami has spent far less time in a professional setup and has gone ahead of him by leaps and bounds this year, in my opinion.

Jock needs to play fullback or is out of the 23 I feel. Doesn’t offer much on the wing. With Vunivalu back next week it’ll be interesting who is left out.

I don't know what the Brumbies Supporters are upset about, if anything he was pretty generous to the Brumbies trying not to decide the game. The Brumbs had a TONE of penalties in the last min, they were clearly cynical with a number of those penalties and frankly Berry could have probably given two penalty tries. Let alone the Brumbies giving away soo many penalties when under pressure they were lucky to have not given away a scrum yellow card.

I think most Brumbies fans, especially on here have been gracious in defeat despite the emotion of their team losing

I didn't have a dog in the fight
I thought the ref succumbed to the pressure of the moment.
Reds get held up.
He says no try, but I was secretly playing advantage for an offence by a player that I won't nominate.

Not good enough, in my view.

Just one last point in the ref, right before ASY (Angus Scott-Young) picks and gets held up Berry does put his hand out for penalty advantage for offside.
