QLD Premier Rugby 2021

I don't see this as fixing the issue. Maybe clubs need to spend time training front rowers. If you go 4th grade up, then what happens if the 4th grade props get injured? The rule was put in place because a number of clubs use uncontested scrums as a tactic when they dont have a strong front row. This issue has been getting worse over the years to the point that you watch multiple grand finals with uncontested scrums. It is not rugby. It is part of the game. Scrummaging is a genuine skill that requires training. Just like tackling. I understand the safety concern but that comes down to training and commitment.

I agree with you. I was screaming out "uncontested scrums" from the 8th minute of the game (jokes); nobody listened!

You would have really been calling for that in the second half when the jeeps scrum got its roll on. They did swap a hooker playing prop with a prop, so that helped the jeeps 2nd's scrum.

Any updates on what has transpired since the Brothers v GPS Womens fiasco. What happened and the resulting national media coverage of it has done irreparable damage to our game. It was a sad day on many fronts.

I don't think much else will come of it publicly. I know Brothers held a club meeting before training last night and talked to the players. The Brothers player involved has some on-going problems and is being dealt with by the QRU.

I've said my piece on it, and although I know more I'll leave it there so we don't keep bringing down the vibe of the thread. Everyone by now has seen what happened and the bloke involved will get dealt with appropriately, as well as others.

He’s got some ongoing problems alright - all the Bros seem very quiet on this one.

Well oracle I know nothing about it. So silence broken.

Maybe we should do the best behaved crowd? The most sterile place to play?

We don’t have to be extreme and say good crowd behaviour is sterile.

Watch a replay of last years GF, as a Uni supporter I can say without bias their crowd support when UNI were towelled by their front row the Tigers crowd were fantastic in the way they supported their club and players performance not bagging the opponents. I love the concept of Bros butchery it would be great to see them act in the same way.

Don’t get defensive there. There were two questions there not one. I thinking along the lines of a more positive line of attack for the forum.

Every club would like to be known for their humility- well done tigers - their is not a lot of crap coming from Easts despite their 1-7 start to this season which must be hard to take after the 2020 success. 6 from 6 grand final victories was an amazing effort and probably during the pandemic was not given the recognition that it deserved. Easts like the other compass clubs have not historically had the periods of sustained success like the glamour clubs in Bros, Uni, GPS, Snbk (except Souths run 1980s - 1990 but they did struggle before & after that period).

UQ is getting so good they are getting into hater territory now. Hearing they have recruited the services of none other than Stephen Moore to come off the bench, replacing the injured Josh Nasser who is out for the season after an injury picked up last week

If true, Steve will be a great addition for their locker room in terms of giving confidence to the younger guys.

But the bloke hasn’t played any sort of consistent rugby at any level for three years. He will no doubt be better than your average 4th grader but I don’t reckon he’s going to change a game for them.

When did GPS have sustained success? Premierships in 1972, 1996, 2018. Runners up in 1973, '74, '75, '76, 2013 and 2017 . Hardly sustained success. Both Easts and Souths have won more Premierships.

I remember a few years in the early 90's where we struggled to win a game. We went nuts out at Sunnybank one year when Pottsy Neilson kicked a conversion from the sideline and we celebrated because it meant we were not going to get the wooden spoon.

But I agree Easts deserve kudos for an amazing year in 2020. Has that ever been achieved before? I doubt it will ever be achieved again, so well done to Easts.

Easts last year were just memorable, a fantastic effort. Great for them; all this side of fence thought they deserved (and earned) everything they achieved last year. And don't worry we were at the coal-face of the juggernaut year being the club with the vast majority of grand final loses last year.

He trained last night and definitely a buzz around him being there.

No doubt will be short of a gallop , but his set piece work is still spot on and I’m sure he knows enough short cuts around the park to make do. Look out come scrum time if he gets on.

He might just become what Ben Mowen was to Easts last year.

You’d have to think Moore would be a great influence on a very talented young side. Hopefully keep the younger guys grounded and ensure they don’t get too ahead of themselves after such a great season so far.

I don’t think Stephen Moore is going to be the guy you all remember

He lost a step in his last year of super rugby and he’s been away from the game for awhile

Will be intriguing to see how he goes…

We need more Moores and Mowens, professional players who retire but give back to the grass roots

Moore might become the new Pat Howard. He had a bit of success steering UQ teams around the park in 3rd/4th grade back in the mid-2000s.

Steve Moore packing down in 3rd grade is a very scary proposition for opposition front rows.

Tipping for this week is HERE

Jets I don't know what your worried about this guy giving the margins. He's pretty spot-on and allows me to go for Brothers just about every week and get a win (with the margins of course). It's a win-win. Or a win-loss, whichever way you want to look at it.
