Wallabies 2021

well I've been happy to rely on the excuse of the Wallabies still finding their combinations in the first two tests of the year as we fumble our way to a loss and a late win.

Then the Springboks (A) come out and play their first game (test) in two years v the Lions.....

When you compare our WC QF 19 team to who started on Tuesday, then compare the Boks WC 19 team with the core of the team vs Lions, you'll find they are chalk and cheese.. we lost a stack of talent post 19 to both retirements and O/S contracts.......... SA pick from everywhere.

If we picked from everywhere we could throw in

Latu, Arnold, Coleman, Skelton, McMahon, Kerevi, Folau, then when fit also throw in JOC (James O'Connor), Petaia, Dugunu, Vunivalu, Naiyarovoro etc. Rodda potential returns to the mix as well.

Folau is not eligible, on the simple fact that he is contacted to another sport………

He's back in Rugby and has the required number of caps. I wouldnt pick him atm but TBH I think beale would be offering more then Banks atm.

Beale is still a starting FB for a top tier proffessional team.

Coming from a Reds fan that is kind of amazing.

But Beale's form was pretty horrendous for the Tahs before he left. I don't think he would be better than Banks.

Not to mention they are vastly different types of players as well.

Not sure bout the reds comment.

They are very different types of players, but I think our backs are just lacking a bit of nous. Plenty of individual skill and speed but just lacking a bit between the ears. I think we are missing those smarter players who directed us around in a far more successful period, like Beale.

That being said, Banks was much better during the week I feel.

I think this is why we are currently missing JOC (James O'Connor) so much. With JOC (James O'Connor) in there, there'd be no need for any other.

From Twitter

- Rennie confirms JOC (James O'Connor) has done his groin again. Hopeful for game time against Kiwis at some stage this year
- Koroibete fine
- Vunivalu still on the mend, eyeing TRC
- Petaia is actually fit, will play club footy this weekend, interestingly at 15.

He is eligible in as in played enough tests & now plays rugby overseas however, legally I dont think he could ever be employed by RA ever again.

Nope, he’s still with the Southport Tigers Rugby League team on the Gold Coast………

Played his first game for them on the weekend.

He doesn’t head to Japan until September.

The rule to play for Australia is that you have to have signed a contract to play here, not to actually have played. Under the Giteau law wouldn't him signing to play Rugby but not having played yet meet the same criteria?

I realise he wont play, but I think he would be eligible

I imagine currently not for the same reason the Wallabies couldn’t select Vunivalu last year while he was still playing for the Melbourne Storm, despite actually having signed a contract with RA……….

Had a good discussion on tue night, Marika has now played 36 tests, with a possible 8 tests before he would become an "overseas player". We all agreed that if Rennie was ever going to use the plus 2 outside the Giteau it needs to be him. If he then went to Europe later in the year he could have 47 caps & then over 2 years would only need 13 games to qualify allowing for then 2 others to be picked for the RWC2023.

We have a real lack of quality depth in the outside backs I personally dont think we should give up on him from an RA prospective.
