Well interesting first round. Here is how I saw it.

TSS are going to be tough to gauge after this week. They obviously belted a helpless BGS, but what does that mean. Certainly should not be taken lightly by BBC or NUDGEE, and they sounded a warning that trials are only trials, but now the real business is here, they are not to be trifled with. Today was a BIG STATEMENT against weak opposition- can they do the same against a marque team?

Terrace for mine were the surprise packet this week, with my vote , prior for joint wooden spoon with BGS. But the Ipswich boys did what IPSWICH does best, turned a highly rated IGS team into a laughing stock by being beaten by a yet another weak GT . AMAZING.

TGS have again shown some real spark today, and BBC had to dig deep to put them away. TGS will be a handful for other teams this year and should not be taken lightly. BBC has plenty to worry about with the demise to Churchie last week , and an unconvincing win today over TGS. BBC don’t look polished and maybe believing their own hype without underlying ability. They have some outstanding players but do they have the depth of cattle if injuries start fronting. Have their strength and conditioning been satisfactory. I think the question should be raised. A great team of individuals or a great team- lots of questions -lets see. It’s a long season.

NUDGEE in my opinion are actually the big losers today. Although the score does not reflect it, BSHS challenged NUDGEE in all the supposed strengths and certainly the Nudgee team stabilised each time, but they should not have been rocked in the first place. The BSHS back line broke through the line a number of times and their forwards were more than a handful for NUDGEE . A disallowed try in the corner and the score could have been vastly different . BSHS were not as well drilled as NUDGEE, but had they been the result could have been turned around and I dare to say A momentum shift like the disallowed try and the score could been reversed. BSHS UNCOVERED a lot of chinks in the supposed NUDGEE ARMOUR. Teams of superior strength and conditioning and drill, will have learnt a lot from today’s games, and NUDGEE should be afraid. They were badly exploited. A lot of work to do- I expected a lot from NUDGEE today and was very disappointed. They did not deliver. They need to stop believing their BS , or a team like TGS will AMBUSH THEM! NUDGEE should have done to BSHS, what TSS did to BGS today but they couldn’t. Confidence and belief inside that NUDGEE will have evaporated today, despite what they maybe saying to the outside world. NUDGEE and BBC maybe favourites this year, but both teams were NOT IMPRESSIVE today. Well done BSHS.

Plenty of surprises to come.

Real winners today TGS, GT, BSHS ,TSS.
Real Losers BBC,NUDGEE,BGS,IGS.

I thought the forward pack went really well, the scrum was dominant. The returning back row got through a mountain of work especially the number 6, his defence was solid. Zac was his usual menace with the ball in hand played out of his skin.
I’m a little confused tho as to the game plan in the second half, with the wind behind them they wanted to play expansive in their 22 instead of kicking for territory and letting the forwards dominate.
The backs were shocking and need a boot up the behind. Taj for mine is best suited at full back and Harry should be at 10, I was told that it’s the first game that the full strength team played together?
Next week will be a blinder between nudgee and BBC let’s hope the COACH has a proper game plan in place otherwise I could see BBC heading back to Toowong with their tails between their legs. They have the players, just need them firing together as a team and not individuals looking for glory. Good luck to both teams

Annan would undoubtedly be the best fullback at BBC but there is no one to play 12 if he shifts to fullback. BBC fullback, Blake Davis, played well against a quality TGS side. In my opinion, the backline against NC should be:

9) Peron Faimalo
10) Harry MP (Moana Pasifika)
11) Delacruz Ripley
12) Taj Annan
13) Jarrod Homan
14) Xavier Ruebens (13 against TGS)
15) Blake Davis

Harry MP (Moana Pasifika) is a quality 10. The center combination of Annan and Homan would be huge. Both Wingers in grade 10 (exiting future), with Noah Fielding on the bench (14 against TGS). BBC also had a quality 9 play a lot of their trials. Smaller bloke, McGown I think his last name is. Could definitely see him playing 9, with Faimalo shifting to 12 if an injury in the backline occurs.

BBC has great individual players in the backline. But it didn't look like the played together as a team.

Totally support that backline - just had another glimpse of yesterday’s game, Zac Hough truly is a standout and that’s a strong forward pack they have that I can’t work out why they were not rewarded with numerous penalties for marching TGS scrum consistently backwards - keen for more feedback from someone who has a better understanding of the rules than I do.

Just on Annan being number 10, the QLD reds signed him up (and Lynagh's son) to be eventual 10's for the Reds. Annan was also picked as the 10 for QLD U18s recently. Hopefully the TGS came was just a hiccup and he starts controlling the game at nudgee.

It is apparent that TGS are not to be taken lightly this season after their performance against BBC. The scoresheet does not represent the game. TGS were dominant even going within 2 points of the reigning GPS premiers, BBC looked nervous it will be a very interesting match up next week for the Titans clash of BBC and Nudgee college. Prediction 36-25 NC favour. With the way Zac Hough played on the weekend there is no doubt he is still the best player in the GPS competition but how BBC decide to shut down Toia will be interesting.

Agreed, Toia is a menace, one of the best talents in GPS. Him vs Homan will be big. Homan only now coming back after a shoulder injury which happened in the first round of trials against NC. Hough has to be in the conversation for not only best player in GPS, but one of the best schoolboy flankers in the world. Or am I getting ahead of myself??? Both him and howarth named in the world schoolboy XV last year...

Just watched the IGS v GT game thanks to CLUCH. That Number 8 for GT is something special. His 1st year at GT. Was a Marsden High product playing both codes. Unsure if he is still in the Broncos system But i think he’s chosen his path now. PJ SU’A. Remember that name.. He’s only Year 10 and looked like he was leading the GT pack around. He ran rampant against a the IGS defence.

Totally agree re the dominance of the BBC scrum on Saturday. They consistently pushed the TGS scrum back several metres and were not rewarded accordingly from the Ref.

A lot of negative commentary on the BBC performance against a very good TGS side. It was the first real game of the season. I think it's fair to expect some rustiness. The Churchie game was a trial game and irrelevant. I don't disagree that Nudgee deserve favouritism heading into this coming Saturday's clash at Ross Oval. BBC will be have to be much better and I expect they will be. They are defending champions who have lost one competitive game in two years including beating Nudgee two years running. I think they deserve more respect. We'll find out on Saturday but Nudgee can dismiss BBC at their peril. It's a shame this game isn't being played in round 9 which based on previous years draws it should have been. Not sure why the draw was rejigged this year but it hasn't done BBC any favours. Both Nudgee and TSS away plus the bye in the final round.

That is the most complete performance by a TSS that I have seen at the Shark Tank in a long time. Lets not forget BGS had 8,12 and 13 in Reds academy.
ACGS at Churchie will show us where we are at.

watched the tape of the BBC match-wow that 7 is a one man team .

Wow, TSS thumped BGS... Who would have expected.... BGS have for a while been, and are again this year a free win for the top half of the table.

What vendetta do you have against BBC? How on heavenly earth can you call it a one man team. One man teams don't win at GPS level... Especially against a quality TGS side.

All of the BBC forwards played well. Dominant scrum, dominant line out, they are a solid outfit. Both BBC props are very good. It's hard for a backline to showcase well when the 10 is having an off game. Annan has proved himself to be a solid player for 2 years now. He had one bad game, he will recover. BBC fullback Blake Davis played well. Harry MP (Moana Pasifika) at 12 was a brick wall in defense like he always is. BBC full strength team is back this week against Nudgee. Will be a clash of the titans, NC expecting 10-12 k spectators. It is their old boys day too. I'd expect the NC grand stand to be packed with 1k+ Nudgee boys. I'm sure BBC will send the school too. (would be a real shame if they didn't)

Not fair to give a quality team a bad wrap after they have a poor performance against a quality TGS side. I'm guessing you are still a bit angry after the 45-6 ass whooping BBC hand delivered to TSS last year.

However, I have to agree with you on one thing. TSS fullback Jye Grey (or Gray) is a machine. Both TSS props very good.

Early emergence of a possible GPS First XV:

1. Carsen Patu (TSS)
2. Oahu Davey Phillips (NC)
3. Massimo De Lutiis (TSS)
4.
5. Daniel Maiava (NC)
6. Joe Liddy (Terrace)
7. Zac Hough (BBC)
8. Tom Wheen (BBC)
9. Willem Johnstone (NC)
10.
11. Jarrod Homan (BBC)
12. Taj Annan (BBC)
13. Robert Toia (NC)

15. Jye Grey (TSS)

16. Syrus Schmidt (TSS)
17. Lington Leli (BBC)
18.
19.
20.
21.

Yes, I know all but 1 player i've included is from NC, TSS or BBC. But the gap between the top three teams and everyone else is huge... (perhaps even larger than TSS win margin on the weekend), or too soon BGS supporters.......

Who is your pick for 10? I've said it before and i'll say it again, Syrus is a 12, shouldn't be playing 10... (maybe in a few weeks we can say Taj Annan to 10, Schmidt to 12)

Robert Mapa was well looked after by BSHS’s Rickson Aliva in the weekend. A lot of hype before the game around the big 3 from Nudgee Tony Fuimaono, Robert Toia and Robert Mapa. All absolute guns! But it was the left winger Oska Boyd who stole the show with 4 tries. Heavily helped by Toia though. All tries scored down the left edge. Zero tries from Mapas right side. Rickson Aliva is 1 to watch from BSHS. Rickson got ZERO ball though - credit to NC. Was an awesome match up on that side.

BGS are a absolute joke. Since 2012 they have been the laughing stocks of the comp. BGS are clinging onto their victory in 2012 to hide behind. They will lose every game this year I am calling it now. They would easily come last in AIC. So they have zero chance in GPS.

They need to have a complete culture change.

Why Dan? They seem to be a pretty good school. High level academic outcomes.

Why should they be so concerned about rugby scores?

Yes I remember that match. BBC 1st win at TSS in 16 years.
