Wallabies 2021

Bad decisions are gunna happen when you are roughly 800 caps short of a proper test side.

I don't even think 800 is an exaggeration.
As BH said I think that try was more a reflection of the talent of the ABs rather than poor decision-making on behalf of the Wallabies - they realised that McDermott was out of position and executed in a way that was pretty much impossible to defend.

When's the last time the Wallabies have scored identified and executed something so opportunistic?

I thought that first try that was called back. Kerevi realised there was no one defending behind the 'ruck'. Pickngo and put MK away.

Obviously, any chance the TMO has to overturn a Wallaby try - correctly or not, they will. I think MK must be going for a record number of tries scrubbed out in a season.

To me the bad decision was the Lolesio kick for Kellaway when a couple of passes to Kerevi would have almost certainly seen us score. It was such an obvious opportunity to attack.

The contrast to that was the All Blacks identifying a short-lived and not obvious weakness to exploit to create the try from the grubber.

think we had 435 caps in that starting side. Our 2015 RWC finals teams had about 800-900.

In fact even our 2003 RWC team had about mid-400s.

Pleasing selection.

Greg has never looked fitter.

That's kind of surprising. Did we play less tests annually back then?
Yes. Argentina weren't in the RC, but we were playing NZ and SAF twice, an inbound tour and then the EOYT. 2002 for example we played 10 tests but a lot of the players came through the era of only playing 6 or 7 tests a year. Plus we had 3 players in the 2003 RWC side that were bought from league.

So Greg Holmes is likely to play as well because AAA is set to leave the squad for the birth of his first child.

The only other options are Scott Sio and Tom Robertson who both play LHP.

Lolesio isn’t cutting it, guys under pressure and wallabies need experience. I’d start JOC (James O'Connor) or even Quade at this point.

Holmes likely obviously but Robertson has a fair bit of THP experience right? Even at test level?

I would genuinely take Beale on the Spring Tour. He's already over there and we have absolutely no options at fullback. He's fit, he's quick and he's playing well.

He was also in a pretty similar situation on the weekend to Banks botched try. Instead of getting tackled like Banks, he desperately kept the ball alive and set up a great team try. Ya know, the man gets rugby.

Backline I’d like to see v South Africa…..
9 Tate, 10 JOC (James O'Connor),12 Kerevi, 13 Petaia, 14 Kellaway, 11 Marika and Hodge at fullback….if JOC (James O'Connor) not fully fit, Hodge to play 10, Kellaway back to fullback and give Wright another crack on the wing……Noah to bench…love to throw Quade in on bench …..can’t tackle though.

WEELLLLLLL

Very happy it's Holmes in the squad. He can do his job and do it well!.

SO if Pone's injury (not sure how long he's out) and Alaalatoas absence (not sure when that will be) overlaps, there will need to be a new no.18.

SO

Do you
a) 1. Bell 3. Tupou ------ 17. Sio 18. Slipper (knowing that Slipper does just fine at THP)
b) 1. Slipper 3. Tupou ---17. Bell 18. Holmes

Holmes to 18 is better than swapping Slipps to tight head.
