Re the maul, i like it and if i had to choose between neutering it or keeping it as is, id choose the latter. That said, i think the laws could use some tweaking..as others have said i think the attacking side should be given much less leeway if the maul becomes stationary even momentarily
I would keep it but I want to see it refereed using a similar concept and interpretation as a scrum and eliminate the walking / twisting it around. Make it incumbent on the attacking team to keep it straight. If you cant keep it straight or it stops then you have to use it. If it walks around or twists its a penalty.

If you shear off it has to be the ball carrier only, clean off the back off the maul or its obstruction.

Looks like your Immigration numptys are about to grant Quade's four-times-declined citizenship application:

Staggering that Genia's in the same boat, I wonder how many others are, too?
Christ almighty what a load of whank from poliies. I all for them getting citizenship etc , but for crying out loud when you read this shit;
'
“What an extraordinary performance,” Keneally told the Sydney Morning Herald. “At the last moment of the game, with everything on the line and with the toughest kick, he took on the responsibility and got the job done for his country and for his mates.

“There is no more Australian value than standing up and looking after your mates. Quade Cooper’s passport needs to match his jersey. He’s an Australian hero and he should be an Australian citizen.”

You wonder if Keneally thinks Aussies are f***en stupid. F*** me he kicked a goal for christ sake, if that's the value needed to be an Aus citizen god help you! And I must admit it infuriates me when anyone says these fellas are heroes, it's not like they rushing into burning buildings, facing getting shot at etc etc. According to that every rugby/league etc etc player are elevated to hero status!

8 from 8 and he lead us to a victory over the RWC champions and current world #1. That does it for me. Welcome Quade.

I lived in the UK for 10 years and with an annual international training regime (very light compared to pro rugby players) it was pretty much impossible to meet residency criteria for a passport.
So Quade’s trouble sorting things doesn’t seem strange to me. Being knocked back on what he has contributed to Australia, that’s just crazy. Highly amusing to see Senator Kanealy getting on the issue. Go for it!

Ok, it always been a thing with me, pollies that jump on bandwagons etc. Tell me do you think Quade is a hero? I think he did bloody well, but it was hardly heroics. We got to many words that used to easily these days and so undo what they are actually meant to be. I got a grandson in the last few days of training in NZ army before being posted to Sinai, who do I think is closer to being a hero? And I not calling him one either, and neither would he, but spare me someone kicking 8 goals is one???

I wonder if KK knows QC (Quade Cooper) is a petty Kiwi criminal who likes to steal laptops and white goods. We normally send the Kiwi riff raff back over the ditch. ;)

Just wondering, does anyone think the Boks will change their style for next week? Personally I don't think they will, as was pointed out on Breakdown , most of the Bok's players are playing in NH club rugby, so are comfortable playing a certian way. Also I would think they will look at how points were scored and will toss up whether they think Quade will kick better than Pollard 2 weeks in a row, which basically was where I think they will see the game was won and lost. I not saying it right, but I would be surprised if either team changes much, Wallabies will try to move Boks around a bit, and Boks will just try and grind Wallabies down again.

The Kiwis get easy access to Aus to work and live, but the have to meet the same standards other applicants do to get citizenship

It was earlier stated that he doesn't spend enough time in Aus to meet the requirements

I'd be happy if they at least policed it properly and consistently. One maul last night stopped 3 times - how many goes do you get? Another saw the ball carrier go to knees then get up again - should have been maul over right there. And the usual rash of players joining and swimming up in from of the ball carrier (not legal). If they take out all that crap, then it is a step in the right direction.

This to me is the biggest thing that needs to happen. Actually police the attacking team to the letter of the law particularly after a try has been scored (which also gives you more time to take a look without interrupting the flow of the game).

It is very hard to legally defend a maul and the defending team gets penalised easily. At least if we square the ledger and make sure the attacking team has to get it technically correct for a try to be awarded, it evens the contest.

We often spend ages reviewing incidents over and over again in the lead up to a try that are far less black and white and then a maul try is scored and generally we don't look at it whatsoever.

Being stricter on a stationary maul would also assist things. If it pauses at all moving forward, call it.

If you make it harder to score from we'll see less mauls which are not a particularly good aspect of the game.

They didn't lose by much, their plan works if executed correctly and their is a massive question mark as to whether Aus can turn up again so quickly
