Also, pretty sure the player in possession is allowed to lead with the shoulder, no?
Yep my understanding is an attacking player can’t lead with elbow, knee or foot. Anything else is fine and the onus is on the defender to ensure contact is safe.

Swinton was fine. I said it earlier but if WR (World Rugby) are going to enforce head contact rules they need to also look at the attacking player, not only the defender. If they were doing that the yellow would have gone the other way, Vermeulen very clearly led with his shoulder and Swinton was backing out. That said, swinton does need to get lower
He has history with this and he keeps challenging in a grey area. He needs to go lower in the chest area. It will keep getting him in trouble if not.

The attacking player has a choice whether to put themselves in danger by their own actions so can do what they want.

I think my magic moment had to be tupou's no look pass that led to the try.

Tupou quickly becoming a growing cult hero...

South Africa never looked like winning the game. Too focused on thinking about beating the All Blacks to validate their World Cup status and have instead dropped it into question. Well played Wallabies. World Beaters!
Hard to see SA beating NZ....In fairness to SA they look a little weary and not so sharp.....not the SA I saw against the Lions

I thought the Boks looked absolutely knackered in last 20 too RN. But in saying that I think it was because Wallabies wore them down, and were very good whilst doing it. Really impressed with the composure of Wallabies when the Boks looked to be getting on top, and a real credit to Hooper's captaining I thought, as well as I thought QC (Quade Cooper) just kept everything looking calm in backline.
Perhaps the CHooper effect?? ;)

Ok I'll get my hat and go:D

Yeh Dan - I think the experience of cooper and Kerevi taking the pressure of other players like hooper and also giving confidence to other players like ikatau. Kerevi and Cooper been a revelation. Whilst always a fan of Kerevi I was unsure of bringing back Cooper as was not a fan of his last stint in the wallabies as was too inconsistent, over played his hand and a liability in defence. Completely different player and credit to him for all the hard work he has talked about to grow as a player.

My only concern is does this mean we need to ship our players off to Japan for them to improve…hmmm

My summarised thoughts from twitter:

Wallabies discipline still needs work and our high ball defense was ordinary.
Boks didn't fire a shot - think they got sucked into trying to play a bit wide, and then went back to their maul which was providing them zero go-forward after initial penalty wins there.
The balance of personnel is about right for the Wallabies BUT Koroibete is a target for high kicks, and while Hodge grew into the game, he looks like he's lacking confidence. Some good counterattack from us which is good to see - heads-up play lacking the last few years
Where to for the Boks?
They're not fit enough.
They're not creative enough.
Their cohesion shows exactly what they are: a team picked from across the world with limited time together executing a limited game plan that is fairly easily blunted.
ABs by 30 next week.
The regular cynical injury breaks from the Boks is a blight on the game. If you're not fit enough, get fitter. For supposed professionals it is just the biggest load of rubbish, and Hooper should be calling it out.
The plus for Wallabies fans: We went behind two weeks in a row and found ways to win. Now we need to show upward trajectory against Argentina to prove it isn't a blip. Historically we've ended up in a messy scrap with them, and we need to rise above.

If Swinton lowered himself into that contact, he'd be concussed. Probably has a minor concussion anyway after that head clash.

Player welfare is a delicate balance when the ball runner is allowed to lead with their shoulder, but Swinton needs to think about his record in this area and work out better ways to bring the thunder when it is needed.

Love his aggression but maybe needs to sit out the Argie games and given Wilson a shot at 6.

Boks put a lot of traffic down his channel, and he wasn't dominant, but pretty sure he got 100%.

You see it in the passing and run stats too. Cooper in traffic was forced to run more and pass less. His D was hardly decisive, but in traffic means the pack was there shortly. It works.

As a game plan goes, losing possession is one thing, but ideally you'd see that go with at least a balance of territory. So our kicking game is improving, but we have some way to go yet.

Pretty sure he missed one early - but regardless a great effort in defence.

When he got recalled his technique and discipline in defence was my biggest concern. But I felt that there was no way Rennie would roll the dice unless he was extremely confident Cooper had addressed his issues there. But I would never have suspected we’d see a stat like that one. It is a joy to watch.
