JOC (James O'Connor) made a feeble attempt at a tackle just prior to Beales yellow. If he makes a proper attempt and makes the tackle then no card.
Valentini tackle was too high and asking for trouble if there was head contact.
Good to see Swinton putting in some big hits below the waist. He has obviously learned.
Australia once again their own worst enemy. The ref had no control of the game and may have been influenced by the crowd? Still, our stupidity and lack of discipline cost us big time again. If I was Rennie I would be giving a few of our blokes a serious serious dressing down.

JOC (James O'Connor), Wright and possibly Ikitau do not need to be in this side. Repeating stupid mistakes week in and out. KBs yellow was debatable. He was making a tackle at their time and as said, JOCs missed tackle created the situation.

A disappointing end to maybe the worst EOYT I can remember.

edit - I have been watching them since the early 70s
Could have been worse - we could have played Ireland

It was fair. They could have gone yellow but direct contact to the head and no mitigating circumstances. The laws say red. Its absolutely on Valentini. He was always too high in the tackle.
Yes.. I over reacted. By the law it is a red.

Thing is, if Beale had tackled the Welshman instead of pleading, hands up, to the ref, we wouldn't have conceded that 2nd half try.
Technically you are correct but of the things that could be said about that ‘try’ that one would be pretty low on the list. Even the scorer stopped running.

Going through the game reel and trying to find somewhere in the entire game where we could make up the 2 points, calling Beale out for that would still be very low on the list.

Fuck off the coach is Rennie and he picked Wright before McKellar was involved. Just a fucking stupid comment..
He was dropped, and then reinstated when Mackellar appeared on the scene. That said I don’t have any issue with his initial re-selection because in fairness it was after Koroibete withdrew.

i have several issues with his continued selection beyond that though.

I know your Kurtleys number 1 fan KOB, but he and the backs around the incident are all guilty as each other.

We tell our kids to play to the whistle and none of them did. Sums the Wallabies up over the years, an inability to do the basics.

I’m not his number 1 fan, I defend him when he gets unfairly singled out. Overall he was our most effective back tonight. I agree with the general premise of you post though.

Gutted with the result - but I did think that was a good game of rugby, leaving aside the interruptions.

I understand the frustration with the refereeing but I do think they are in a bind with the current framework.

But I thought the calls they made were right. If anything i thought they missed a couple.

Clearly no intent with Valetini - but the rules are not just trying to stop careless play. They are fringe to reform technique so that accidental head contact is greatly reduced to

Unfortunately Australia’s discipline is a their Achilles heel. The penalty at the end - Swinton was clearly offside and you could hear the ref yelling at him to get back. Likewise the penalty Skelton gave away when we had Wales camped on their line in the bottom corner. We just had to be more disciplined in those key moments. Also some of the rushing out of the line was badly timed and just left holes for the attack.

Gee there are some good parts to our game though. We just need consistency and better discipline. Surprised by the criticism of White - I thought he was terrific today, as was Paisami. Sorely missed Valetini out there but Slipper & Tupou were terrific and I’ll say early that I think the reply will show the locks were incredibly industrious too doing the grunt work.

I dunno if I’ll watch the game again. Some very good parts but it is hard to watch us shoot ourselves in the foot time after time.

One thing of interest, I thought the Red was still only 20 minutes with 14. I really need to keep up!

The different refereeing styles make it difficult for players. Just watched France vs AB's and you would think they were playing under different rules to Wales and Aus. At least 6 contacts to the head were ignored.
Barnes refereed very well... players skills are what should win games, not some whistle happy peanut in charge, looking for how many penalties he can award.

Absolutely agree. Not a Barnes fan a few years back but today he was really good.

Heart-breaking stuff, but what a difference that quick ruck ball makes. Attack was so much more threatening this week as a result and we were actually able to play some rugby.

Also very happy with the way Paisami has stepped up these last two games, really playing his natural game now, rather than trying to be Kerevi lite. He and the team as a whole are looking so much better for it

Whatever your views are on the technical validity of the Welsh try decision after watching every angle plus slow motion replays, in the nearly 200 years and thousands of matches ever played, in real time, with any other referee, that knock down would have resulted in a scrum to Australia.

Only seen the knock down try. Pretty funny really.

Soft red, soft yellow, and that try and we only lost by 1. Wales are trash.

You think McKellar had anything to do with it. He got dropped in the France series too. Got dropped last night it has nothing to do with the forwards coach..
