Growing injury/absence list :

Swain - 2 weeks, misses the rest of the England tour
Cooper - miss the England tour likely
Banks - season over, possible WB time over
AAA - Head knock, another week out back for game 3
Kellaway - short term (?) hamstring
What was the update with Holloway?

JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor) - returning from injury, underdone last week, fitness this week tbc
Tupou - returns

We really are going to want some of these back for game 3 and not too many more on the list after this game.

The funny thing is that Campbell has more games at fullback this year than Petaia. Isn't it?

No, not unusual at all. You don't have to have been around here long to understand the derision I received in my support of Jock when Petaia was gifted his FB opportunity. But even I can see what was happening. Jock started the year in his preferred slot, appropriate. Petaia was given an opportunity to expand his game more broadly in the back three at the same time that Petaia was given the opportunity to develop in his preferred position. Personally I rate Jock as a better all round FB, certainly a better backline organiser. Better at D. A better floor. But Petaia is better in things that Jock will never match, largely his evasiveness. A better ceiling.

These injury selection woes, along with the Reds development are exactly the things that strengthens Petaia's opportunity to start at 15.

I think it is a fair question to ask: Why are our back stocks showing multiple forms of leg muscle strain, principally due to training and warm-up? England's total losses due to this type of injury are zero! As someone who suffered from tight muscles as a (very) amateur athlete the secret was long slow warm-ups and lots of massage work to loosen muscles. Why is our S&C program not delivering?

England did have an almighty injury list before the series started though. Probably still bigger than our current one.

That's 33% of our best starting team :\

Kellaway is a really big loss tbh.

Fantastic footballer.

Intriguing game coming up - I have just no feeling for how it's going to end up on the scoreline, but I can imagine this one will probably be one of the more brutal matches between the two for quite a while.

Anything in the recent weather causing heavier tracks I wonder

Jamie Pandaram is reporting 3 former NRL payers in the 23 this week, don’t think Tom Wright counts so I reckon Vunivalu starting and Perese 23.

I don't hate that at all. Vunivalu & Perese incredibly different players. I'd hate having to defend for 60 minutes against Vunivalu then look up and it's Perese running dead straight at you.

When is the team being announced? 1.30pm?
