Sydney Subbies 2022

A few points to take here;
- Was this when UNSW stacked their lower grades
- Was this when UNSW was playing dual registered players
- This game appeared to be at DP
- Newport appeared to be severely undermanned on that day which happens when you play away from home
- Would this result be different at Porters? - Yes

You may have beaten Newport - but were smashed by Valley. So that still doesnt win the Barraclough.
I never understood the concept behind “stacking” a lower grade when your higher grades are the ones winning...

Oversight on my behalf. renegades in division 4 pushing Kings or Convicts down

*phew*! ;)

Kings were fairly consistent with Halligan in 2020-1 and had a couple of cracks this year, but I think open borders have cut their numbers a little. They're a fairly young crew and the travel bug no doubt is upon them.

Convicts tend to go up and down in numbers with Bingham Cup. Similarly Maccabi with the Maccabiah Games. Jeez it'd be nice if the organisers of those two events took our season into consideration!

Barker forfeiting second grade. Terrible news for our lower grades guys. Got stitched up by Uni last time we played them and now again.
Thanks Barker!
Yeah not great that we had to forfeit. Not sure why we are down on players but a few 2nd graders listed in 1’s team sheet this week

Div 2 round 11

First set of reverse fixtures this week, will be interesting to compare results.

Beecroft v Newport - Despite us being at home Newport should be way too strong for us. If we can keep the score respectable that will give us a bit of confidence heading into some more winnable games. Newport by 25+

Briars v Lindfield - Briars will be burning they choked away a solid lead against Hills last weekend. Lindfield should get the job done away from home but they’ll be made to work for it. Lindfield by 12.

Old Iggies v Quins - Wheels have fallen off at Ryde after getting towelled up by Valley. Quins coming off a tryfest loss against UNSW. If they’re able to put 31 points on them you would imagine they could back that attacking performance up against a depleted old ignatians side. Quins by 30+

UNSW v Old Barker - Match of the round for me. Should be a good contest to start but I feel that UNSW will pull away in the second half. UNSW by 18

Blacktown v Hawkesbury Valley - #prayforblacktown We’ll see triple digits here.

In total, I don’t see any change in results from round 3 matchups. I would imagine that would stay the same for other rounds seeing as most teams have stayed at a consistent level.
Wow you were 3 points of triple figures with the Blacktown and Hawkesbury game with the score being 102-5

Renegades had a tight one against the Staggies today at the Field Of Dreams. Don't give them half a gap - serious wheels on the outside! We managed to take care of it up front but it was a close run thing.

12 reserves named that weren’t in colts or first grade starting teams. Should have been able to run twos with that.
We did today, with no colts and lower grades on the other side of Sydney.

Yeah, kind of expecting that their colts filter through and then more come on board.

One of the things a couple of clubs have said: having Colts play after Thirds can hurt senior numbers in the longer term. Expecting the Thirsties to stick around for two hours to back up for 2s can be an issue.

Of course the Colts are the guys who you want filling your reserve Grade, ready for the big time in a year or two.

What happened between Sea-Lice and Irish today? Fusesport says the match was abandoned... (and not postponed due to the weather)

Usually only happens when a match startsn and doesn't make halftime. Could be a serious injury but I really hope not. There have been enough of those recently

Thankfully only seems to be the fact that Forshaw 2 was more like a mangrove than a rugby field...makes sense to have called it off.

I’ve never understood why colts are placed where they are in the match day layout. Why not put them to kick off the day and then they can filter in where they belong from there. Not every Colt belongs playing 1st and 2nd grade. Put them at the beginning of the day and let clubs work it out from there themselves

I love your thinking @Mangoman

Why was HV allowed to score over 100 against Blacktown?!

Yes, I get it it that its a game, and there are no mercy rules in Subbies - but what benefit is there to smash Blacktown and rub their noses even further?!

The ref should have called stumps when the scoreline difference was around 70/ 80 - and not let it get to over three figures. Wouldn't all bonus points be accrued earlier?

That result will not help Blacktown at all, and may be a catalyst for them to forfeit some (or all) remaining matches this season...
The referee isn't in control. The captains have to agree, then speak to ref.

The club president should be taking the Blacktown team out for Thai at the end of the season followed by dinner to celebrate their commitment

The ref is usually the most sensible one on the field at times like this, and for the sake of both teams, and the game, needs to put a game to bed before the end of full time.

If in the ref's opinion, it becomes a player safety issue, then definitely. Until then, let the boys play.

HVRU don't look like they need +97 points, given for/against is unlikely to split positions on the table.

Blacktown are not ones to shy away from a contest, regardless.
