I can imagine the noise from the grandstand. By having the school groups side by side it will create an opportunity for a cheer battle, rarely seen these days
I believe that joeys will win the cheering battle as this is what joeys culture is about and they will stand up for the occasion. Hopefully the oldboys can get be contained because i can imagine that they will have a few beers down their throat.

Cheers,
SH

Any news on Scots 2s team list with Fitler and Steep out?
Heard young bartlet might go back into the 2nds lineup.

thought I’d give some 16As matchups for this weekend as well while on the topic of bartlet

shore vs newo - newo coming off a draw against a firing kings team should be able to put a score on the shore boys but I think this game will be closer then lots expect. Need players like Warner to step up as I believe he’s been quiet this year and off the back of his selection into the gen blue program will be wanting to show his ability’s.

joeys vs view- view coming of a loss against shore will be firing I think they’ll be able to put it to the boys from joeys and snatch a shock win with connor Dempsey having a lot to prove after his selection into gen blue through the Sydney pathways after failing to make a pres side. wjoeys from my understanding having a couple boys out from injury. Joeys won’t let view upset happen easily but after a couple good performances this year I think they will make it tough for the view boys.

kings vs Scott’s - kings looking like a brand new team in term 3 winning against shore and tying with new I think they may be able to challenge the Scott’s boys and get a win on homecoming day. If Bartlet plays I think kings Backline will struggle to manage him though. Scott’s forward pack esspically there front row in jacobs n Eric will need to step up and have a big performance to stop the large kings pack

2018 and 2019 Scots 1st XV almost won the comp but both lost in the last game.
A schools rugby program is holistic. It has many parts to it. The 1stXV definitely is the show piece and is reward to kids who have battles hard for some over 8 years at some schools. Other aspects of the rugby programs are depth as in all results whether in the 13F or 1stXV. It is also about the well being of the kids mental health and more importantly communication. Last season wasn't a great one for Scots however their are some green shoots around the place.

Ok, two rounds to go and who can still win a premiership:

1st XV
Joeys 6
Newington 4
Scots, Shore, View, Kings 2

On balance, Joeys in the box seat with New hoping for a stumble. A View win tomorrow could change the whole competition mood. The trailing pack of Scots, Shore, View and Kings need two Joeys losses (and one from New) to jag a share of a premiership if any win both remaining matches.

2nd XV
Kings, Scots 6
Joeys 4
View 2
Shore, Newington 0

Kings vs Scots this week is a biggie, with the outcome potentially deciding if Joeys can force a joint premiership. If Scots win and they are in the box seat coming into the final round vs Shore. If Kings win they go clear and play Joeys in the last round for an unbeaten premiership. Joeys need a Kings win tomorrow and to beat Kings next week for force a 3-way premiership. Mathematically no one else can gain a share of the premiership.

3rd XV
Joeys 10
Kings, View 8
Shore 6
Grammar, TAS 4
Scots 2
SBHS 0

Unbeaten Joeys have the two teams right behind them in View and Kings to play in the last 2 rounds. One Joeys win guarantees at least a share of the premiership. Tomorrow is View v Joeys and Kings v Scots, next week is View v TAS and Joeys v Kings. This will run right to the wire next week.
Excellent summary. Theoretically Shore can share the 3rd XV premiership if they win their last two matches but only if Joeys lose to Riverview and Kings lose to Scots tomorrow, then Riverview lose to TAS and Joeys lose to Kings in the final round. If either Kings or Joeys win tomorrow, then the Shore 3rd XV season is over.

Shore 3rd's should be firing on all cylinders this week as reserve #15 Callum 'The Rhino' Simson will be finally able to get back on the field this week. Watch out Grammar!
I think it will be a great game. Shore could have been closer to the top of the table in the 3rds but a couple of really crucial losses to Joeys and Kings brought them undone. I think they will give Grammar a real nudge at Northbridge but Grammar should not be underestimated.

If we go back to the trial game between View and Joeys, the Joeys boys (as attendance was compulsory) had their approximately 1,100 students attend. Riverview, with a change from being a rugby school to more academic with the introduction of Hine over Hogan (2016), are now only getting about 300-400 to a game - and this is what we saw in the trial match at Joeys; about 300-400 Riverview boys, and 1,100 joeys boys. This has been the case for a few years now.

Now, if anyone can recollect these matches from the last few years they'll notice that while Joeys have definitely had the edge, there hasn't been a huge difference in the volume of the two schools, despite the (roughly) 700 difference in students attending the games. In particular, we saw this at the 2022 trial game between the two schools. 300 vs 1100. And what happened? Again, Joeys was a bit louder, but it wasn't so noticeable that the Riverview boys efforts were redundant.

So why does this matter?

Well, due to the venue change and the nature of the matchup with Joeys, 1200 Riverview boys have requested a ticket at Leichhardt. So, if we were to apply what I discussed above, we are placed in a bit of a predicament:

If 300-400 (away) View boys come close to matching 1100 (home) Joeys boys war-cry efforts, whats gonna happen when there are 1200 View boys?

I pose the question to you.

BOB

P.S - Even if one to argue the View boys have had more than 400, there is no way they have ever gone to even 600 in this season, which is just over half the Joeys crowd. My point stands either way.

Agree, the 5-3 loss to Joeys was crucial. They would regret not winning that game, considering Joeys had 2 yellow cards that day.

Came close??

In the nicest way possible, if you believe the cheering sounds are similar then you need to get your ears checked. Here's a link for that https://www.hearing.com.au/utm_sour...t&utm_content=pensioner&utm_term=hearing_loss . Anyway, even if you are standing right next to the Riverview crowd, their cheering doesn't even come close to the Joey's students cheering.

Honestly this whole “old boy” problem is just one massive overblown scapegoat issue … you’d never see joeys give up their home ground for such nonsense
