“Jock was nowhere near his best on the weekend, and he was crook late in the week and he was probably a bit flat on game day. We still rate him, he’s certainly still in the reckoning for Wales.”

Quite a mix of content in that one paragraph.

Is he still sick?

Or is he better, but dropped this week because of his poor performance?

It's just more vagueness from Rennie so he can make excuses after a loss.

Cue the post-match conference:

"Clearly we didn't have our best team out there, would have loved to start Campbell but we started him when he was sick and he had a shit game, so now he's extra sick and we couldn't play him"

Dropping Skelton to the bench just shows how little planning there actually is in their selections.

Ease him in against France - he looks good. Start him against Italy - best Wallaby on park. So the next logical step is to drop him back to the bench in his last game?

Yep, can’t claim to be focussing on discipline and then retain a player who gave up a stupid YC last week.
Unfortunately McDermott didn't really leave them with an option. He consistently passed behind the man and had two awful kicks. In theory he should be great off the bench but I'm yet to see him play well coming on. He seems to be better suited to starting and hard to argue against White starting currently.

No Reece Hodge? Maybe DR is looking for counter attack from the back 3?
Pack looks good but also surprised Skelton is not starting. Neville was excellent when he came on last week so maybe not so surprising.
Neville was also excellent against the French. I did think they would start Neville and have the impact from Skelton. But much of a muchness

In the context of selection though, McDermott offers more than Gordon, who should’ve been dropped for last week’s stupid yellow alone. Baffling imo

If I look at the team to find positives, I can say I like the bench of FF (Folau Fainga'a), Skelton, Tupou & Samu in the forwards. Hopefully we can be close enough in the match and these guys can come on and really up the ante. Think I would have preferred Hodge but I'm ok with Jordan getting the spot.

I think the best way to try and match this Ireland team is to be as direct as possible. With the right ball Paisami & Ikitau can get over the ad line with Mccloskey and Ringrose. Mccloskey is a big unit but not their first choice

Their starting front five are some talented lads. Scrum time could get messy.

Is McCloskey going to fall for Paisami's exaggerated show and go? If so we should beat them by 50 as he has tried it unsuccessfully about 5 times a game this year. If McCloskey reads it and swallows him up like every other team has then Ikitau may as well not play for all the ball he'll see.

The more I think about the mass changes to Italy, the more I question Rennie. All he had to do was rest a few key players, not 11 changes. Win by 2 tries in a rusty win or something. Lose to Ireland admirably and hopefully slip past Wales. Then he would've come away with 3/5 wins and an almost win against France and we'd be thinking this Dave fella knows what's up.

Spot on.

I think Tate had the opportunity to surpass Gordon on the weekend but completely blew it. All he needed as was an average game but as you said he came on and was poor, especially in the areas Rennie wants to see improvement.

I feel sorry for Ikitau, I don’t think he’s seen any clean attacking ball for the Wallabies in 2022.

Instead we now know this Dave doesn't know what's up.

Noahs got close to 20 caps now- there’s a big difference between Donaldson and himself.

That's not the issue, it's the fact he didn't have faith in Noah to do the job, so I will be perplexed if he puts Noah on for an inverse scenario this weekend.

Also, the prior game, replacing Foley for Hodge with 8mins to go at a critical time in the game was also confusing as pointed out by pretty much everyone in the world.
