He's very good. Will be in one of the teams for sure. There is going to be some high level talent not make the 1sts. He looks to have the ability to play 11,12,13,14 as well which will help.

Joeys vs Newington Preview
After more time on the road than the Rolling Stones, the Joeys community will be relieved to finally have their teams run out at ‘The Park’ for the first time in 2023.
After a challenging month of trials and the first two rounds of competition away, it somehow feels that Joeys have crawled to the home game start line, particularly with injuries to key players disrupting them already. Whether you look at this team through the competition lens of ‘not won a game yet’ or ‘not lost a game yet’, even ardent supporters have a little trepidation of how this weekend plays out, let alone the rest of the season.
Having not gone even close to being on the right side of a penalty count yet this season, their first task will be to demonstrate enough discipline to earn favour with the referee at the tackle and the breakdown. Allowing a forward unit like Newington a free piggyback up to the 5m line will be fatal.
In the second half last week Joeys went away from their forwards’ short passing game and moved the ball too laterally in the backline which allowed for simple drift defence to number up. Inside shoulder options in the forwards and backs will be required this week to set the New inside defenders and allow for space out wide(or inside options). Without an Oscar Jorgensen (out for another month) in the midfield to hold defenders and batter the gainline, a subtle adjustment is still required.
Newington will pose obvious problems with their power runners and back tree threats, however, they are the last of the schools to continue to use one off runners, and they do not use the pod systems of other teams. It means that seeing their power runners coming is obvious, although stopping them is another matter altogether. Their supporters will want to see a smoother transition from forwards to outside back once the line is bent.
Joeys are already starting to see a lot of good cattle on the sidelines, fortunately there is talent coming up and filling their shoes, but this remains a tough match to call. Would another draw surprise anyone .....

I think if Newingtons front three are firing, Joeys will struggle to get on the front foot. I think its up to the backline of Joeys to really show what they are made of, and tell the rest of the GPS that they shouldn't be counted out just yet.
As a former Joeys boy it pains me to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were to go down to Newington. Regardless of result, its sure to be a cracker game of footy, another chapter in Newington and Joey's rugby union history.

Great summation @Cockatoo Run , the injuries are running very deep at HH. A lot of boys that would be getting a call up into 1's and 2's are on the sidelines as well, it runs right into the 16's cohort. I think there are some questions to ask about the very short preseason and transition from summer. Does rowing really need most of term 3 and all term 4 to prepare for a race at the end of term 1? Given rugby is overwhelmingly the most popular sport across all GPS schools why not run a slightly longer trial period to allow for better conditioning and finish the comp at the end of term 3. Athletics could occupy the start of term 4 and summer take over from there to finish at the end of term 1.

Jude Gibbs killing it a norths. Playing like he did at Joeys. Syd Uni structure killing players instinctive ability. Although they still manage to get the hottest prospects outside of school.

My thoughts on back-row selection:
Can't have two undersized back rowers, playing 6 and 7 without a strong ball carrier. Need a true 7 whilst also having a more dominant ball carrier that is physical and up to any task. Allowing the 7 to roam the field.
I think Young and Durbridge would complement each other perfectly, both are really good ball players, Durbridge is exceptional over the ball and both look for work across the field in defense.
There are so many good 7s will be interesting to see who they select, Le Matire and the rest of the 7s are pushing for teams as well. Nobody is locked into a spot there.
