Much harder to go all wins in a 10-round comp, particularly when 1st isn't in doubt..

On that note, what's been the overall view of the home and away format, versus prior years

home and away format has exceeded the expectations of what I initially thought.

I think the table reflects what the season has been and the true level of each team, with kings and view being the two obvious best teams in the comp followed by everyone else. Also good to have a full understanding of a season with the return of injuries which might not have happened in a 5-round season (joeys second half season comeback).

Overall, probably a bit better than 5-round as it gives a better understanding of the whole season.

Agree. Kings 1XV 2023 should have won v Scots to be considered one of the best GPS team in the last 40 yrs or so. Very hard to go 10-0 but no team has done it still. The one that does will be very special. They got to get through Joeysthis week. At home, last game I think they will but Joeys will put up a good test.

Love it.
Think the programs still need some maturity regarding preseason (including supporting non GPS schools needs) and player management.
Without getting too scientific I’m curious to see if body bulk gets a little more focus to help in injury management /prevention versus out and out physical fitness. (Sports science background).

That u13s group looks to be one to keep an eye on. Shore and Joeys had a couple of great games and looks like Scots and Kings aren't far off.
Was watching some games and those young lads go, Shore had a fantastic turn around from getting smashed by Scots in all age groups do than suddenly beating Scots a's and b's team at Northbridge the second time around. Looking good for their future?

I'm a huge fan of the home and away format, much better and I think fairer. I like the fact that you can potentially drop 1 or 2 games and win, the best team more likely to win. I think 5 comp games you could get lucky and jag a comp. I also like the fact that it potentially tests your depth as well. Not wanting to criticise Newington but this format will not suit them, purely from the depth point of view. On another note there's a considerable home ground advantage I believe in this comp so this format irons out all those nuances.
I think Cluch is a great service as well, love to see some viewing/traffic numbers on there.

No, they are 8-1-0. I’m not sure you claim a championship in that scenario. Of course Kings will still be premiers. @Joker will know.
No championship but can claim Undefeated Premiers. Joeys did that in 1983. 6 wins and 1 draw.

How can you compare teams who play a 10 round competition and a 5 round competition?

it’s just not possible, the next years will show this. Teams will struggle especially in rugby to go 10-0

tbf in sports like basketball newo we’re able to go undefeated so it shows it is possible.

@Joker (or anyone who has a legacy on this forums),do you know whether or not this year has had the most discussion ever on green and gold?

If it isn’t then it would be damn close. There were 50 pages already before the season even started! While the quality and subject matter has wavered I would say I have enjoyed this season here. Yes there have been some disappointments but with goodwill of the majority we plow ahead and enjoy the discussion. Banter? When it suits.

This year school kids have been making great contributions, spirited debate and even meeting people. I enjoy having a chance to speak to those who read this place. I am now a big supporter of the View 9th XV. Great blokes.

Been a great H&A series. I know there's allot of chat on the GG about Newington. Best not to let the tail wag the dog. Newington will be fine. Some years schools have weak cohorts and other years strong teams. Worst case scenario if a school doesnt want to play in a H&A series make it 8 rounds. In essence it just has to be more than 5 comp games as it makes no sense to play more trial games than comp games. Really enjoyed watching many teams and many upsets or results that weren't predicted.

NEVER kick out Newington. Oldest rugby school in Australia. Stupid suggestion. The cycle of school sport can be cruel. Can come around quick and have a few years of success ( which may hide the problems if any ) or years of lasting droughts which cause heart ache for players and coaches. Even Joeys went through a drought recently. Just got to keep pushing, acknowledge your mistakes and implement new ideas ( or maybe old ones ) that eventually will turn things around.
Whats all the drama with Newington?
