Ive got some very exiting news for Joeys Rugby!
Lachlan Cox son of Randwick great, has been recovering form a serious calf and achilles injury, due to the injury Lachlan missed out on the 2023 GPS season. Lachlan was in the 1xv squad for the early preseason of 2023 whilst only being 15 at the time. Lachlan is a fly half/halfback and has also been in Christchurch working with the Crusaders for the last year. In 2024 Lachlan should be fit and healthy and is going to be a massive threat to the GPS, We are very exited to see Lachlans come back and his electrifying talent at 3:15 on SJC no.1.

Just want to say this isn't bias as I am a Joeys Old Boys . Some years are stronger than others, I personally believe this and its repeated itself over the the course of history. Waverley have won the CAS this year in the 2023 competition with a strong win over Knox in there final competition game down at 'Death Valley' with a final score of. The Waverley 1st IV being a young team definitely caused an upset against an infamous Knox 1st IV who had talent with the likes of . Personally watching, much of the GPS this year. I believe Waverley could and can give the current/emerging GPS a run for there money.

This can even be supported, If Joeys VS Kings came down to the wire in RND. 2 against an very impressive Kings team with talent such as running around the paddock, and Knox beating in an impressive final stand against Joeys in that 1st trail (Knox Home) game against a very strong and confident Joeys team. Waverley could have given both Kings and the rest of the GPS a crack for a title run. We have even seen Waverley beat very competitive GPS teams and GPS champions, eg; Waverley (A) Vs Joeys (H) (2017) who at last time put Joeys into the break at half time down 33-0 and finished the game with an infamous win, 40-7.

How about we propose a joint 2nd Competition to determine Sydneys best school boy team for that year and even provide relegation to include public schools etc.

Comparing a trial match against a competition round is a bit weird. Nobody is denying that the CAS can compete with the GPS, but when you compare depth it's pretty insignificant. To put it into perspective, Newington put 40 points onto Barker's 2nd XV and Newington came dead last in the 2nds.

can definitely agree with you as some of the teams like knox 1st who got beat by newington by 30 points in a preseason game and newington came last. Some years there are some good and some years but but overall think that the gps standard is mostly higher than cas

There are many ways of skinning a cat Marlins Merchant. As said, different methods of achieving the ultimate goal. I think View's "method"of building is to keep the team together and build team cohesion and confidence. We all know that opens is very differnet to 16's, however having a very talented 16's squad who have gone undefeated, then add a few very good returning opens players forms a very good opens squad with great depth. That's their way. Not everyoné's. I personally think it's good to keep those boys together then throw them to the wolves. Time will tell.

I agree with this, just not that View coaches held players from playing opens this year and that they were just building for 2024. MM

Still surprised at optimism for View next year. Awesome year in ‘23 and generally exceeded expectations. The ‘24 cohort at age group level were usually cellar dwellers with Shore. Credit to the Opens rugby program and depth if they’re in the mix in ‘24. As others have said 16s performance generally counts for squat in Opens if relying on the younger cohort to step up.
If New and Scots sort their forwards out there will be some spectacular back play next year, old school.
