Tom not-so-Decent decided to leak his EXCLUSIVE (and very vague) news of a meeting the night before the most important game of the Wallabies for four years, the contents of which remain unknown. This has changed the narrative around Eddie completely.
You know Eddie could have owned the news cycle and said, yeap I spoke to Japanese rugby, I heard what they had to say and I said no thank you.

This happens every day in the corporate world. In my career I will never decline a coffee/chat with someone who wants to sound me out. It's such a career limiting decision.

It forces an organisation to be better at retaining their talent, give them more reasons to say to a competitor and you'll be better off. As either way, these types of conversations will happen.

That anecdotal tale of your loved ones doesn’t exactly trump the quantifiable data that clearly shows interest in Super Rugby has dramatically reduced over the years…
I never said that it did.

I’m making the point that Super Rugby has had, and continues to have, passionate fans. That’s not saying all is well and there’s no need for improvement.

25,000 fans turned up to watch the Brumbies v Waratahs in Round 1 of Super Rugby this year at Allianz. The Reds had an average attendance of 30,000-odd for 4 years.

Rivalries and tribalism is not unique to the Top 14 or devoid in Super Rugby is all I'm saying.

Taking away how annoying all this is, its also a pretty interesting situation. Fundamentally I think Eddie has McLennan's balls over a barrel. If he leaves, McLennan's position is surely untenable. So McLennan needs him to stay. I suspect Waugh will also back Eddie. I think he knows they won't/can't afford to sack him. So he either keeps the job, or he walks himself off to Japan. I reckon he will stay, because I Rugby AU will get his demands for performance based centralisation over the line.
Aside from the ongoing media circus - is this necessarily a bad thing?

Maybe he never spoke to them... and what his saying is the truth, who fucking knows.

I really don't get the hate for Decent for writing what was clearly a newsworthy story, but whether you hate him or not he didn't leak it - he's not an insider and broke no confidence. Yes, it was potentially a leak from either someone in the Japanese setup or Eddie's inner circle, but Decent didn't leak anything, he reported on the news, as is his job.

Theres just something about him thats irritating, but bloody good at his job though

Sure.

The last two comments should sound familiar
Haha how old some of those comments? I read 2/8 saying we shouldnt play in a trans tasman comp all together and are talking about the 2022 comp? Coming out of covid? The rest are discussing a domestic comp but dont mention exclusivity?

Yeah... domestically.
You realise Super Rugby is an international competition right?

And games vs NZ teams seem to pull better attendances than against poor Aus teams.

Crusaders v Reds at Suncorp pulled 14,000
Force v Rebels at HBF Park, less than 7,000

Yeah i did. I said if we want to win games the simple solution is to stop playing NZ. However if you have read any other of my posts you woild be aware im fully supportive of an international comp outside of a strong domestic product. Just like France, England, NZ and almost everyone else you claim to be successful.

By your logic @Bullrush if I said I like blue cheese, i am also saying I hate every other cheese. However I can say I like blue cheese and that doesnt actually exclude me from liking other cheeses.
