Wallabies 2024

Doritos Day

Johnnie Wallace (23)
He was in a no win situation there, he has been hounded to explain selection decisions to a much greater degree than previous coaches who usually get away with more wishwashy answers of from, fitness, work ons or "going in a different direction". I definitely don't agree with everything Jones has done, but I don't think the relentless questioning around the Hooper and Cooper exclusions has been particularly constructive or useful.
Rubbish, he put up a policy before the tournament of not commenting on non-selected players which let the issue persist because it's clearly a story that reporters on behalf of the rugby public want pursued. Cooper is probably the only Wallaby that's a household name outside rugby circles.

I don't agree with comparisons to the past because the omissions involved bigger names at the biggest event.

There was additional confusion with some injured players getting selected, others not.

It could have been dealt with at the time of announcement but as with most things Eddie mismanaged it.

I don't know a coach who doesn't have a policy of not commenting on non-selected players. If he came out and said "Hooper has been average for two years and his calf is buggered" he'd be met with comments like: The sheer DISRESPECT shown to a legend of the game, he can't say that!!!

You'd think the journos would have realised they were wasting their question time going back to that well over and over. But they can sell more papers if they make him snappy.

Why has he felt the need to put the boot in?

Even if that’s what he felt right or wrong it’s not appropriate. Is it because he’s feeling a bit attacked at the moment and doesn’t like it.

Compare Eddie to how Hooper spoke in coverage about the side and Eddie. He’s an embarrassment.

Not like he hasn’t snaked blokes before at the last minute. Ask Owen Finnegan a fellow Coogee Oval soldier how he feels about him.

Is Eddie friends with Link?

Because McKenzie would have a pretty good reason to have an axe to grind with Hooper after the way he hung him out to dry with his mate Kurtley Beale

Of course everyone has pretended that never happened

Rennie & Fisher's Wallabies put 39 points on Wales playing their injury decimated C team. Eddie's full strength Wobbs managed 6 points even with McLennan providing him with open slather for overseas based players...
A different Welsh team under a different coach. Let's not kid ourselves that Wales have got significantly better.

Hooper is not Quade and never has been? There’s a reason why you’re going to get a lot of ex-players coming out to defend Hooper- the guy is universally respected.

Whats going on here btw? I thought the mods on this site were the rational ones.

We get it. You don't like Hooper. This stat gets trodden out once a week.

It's about how our Head Coach is handling the current situation which is getting worse by the moment. He should be in control but he seems happy to keep throwing petrol on the fire.

Tells me he wants out.
It’s a fair conclusion to make, but he’s basically been hounded for months about Hooper & Cooper, from the media and from former players, to explain why he left them out

Now he has finally relented and explained his reasoning, and now people are ripping into him for being honest

But his rationale is bullshit and people see through it. How could Hooper be less committed than someone like Slipper or White? And he’s won more games than anyone from the Rebels.

He left out Hooper because of ego- he wanted the other players to know that the team was his and no one else’s.
