Super Rugby could do worse than having a televised jersey launch event for all teams at a single venue (maybe where Super Round is due to be played that year), where they showcase their home and alternate strips for the year, alongside any strips such as heritage and pacific islands.

Would also be good if each team had a custom Super Round jersey that took inspiration from a different aspect of their home city. The NBA currently has a CITY edition jersey and most of them look really good and they change them up quite frequently. Those jerseys would be the ones to push on socials to the younger generation.

It's something that none of our competitors are actually doing at the moment as a large scale event.

I think you'd have to combine this idea with a more relaxed fit supporters jersey for it to work. I'd consider myself to be in decent shape and I feel ridiculous wearing my rugby game kit anywhere other than the gym with how tight they are nowadays.

Not saying you have to go full early 2000s rap culture 2XL oversized tops like what's very trendy right now, but something slightly more forgiving in fit would probably sell if the designs are done right.

Even some sort of faux retro inspired t-shirts similar to what Angus Scott-Young made for the Reds a couple years back would get some love.

Is Super Rugby short because of international windows?

Each team players every other team once, then three of their other five conference members, for only 14 games. How do they pick which teams from their own conference misses out?

Surely we could play our home conference twice at least, to get to 16 games. Or even home & away for the other 11 teams, so 22 games.

My understanding is 2 games against everyone in the home conference was what RA was pushing for when they laid out super rugby pacific but the kiwis didn't want it and were leaning towards just a single round robin, so this is the compromise they landed on - playing 3 teams twice (not necessarily from your conference but with a focus on it).

Speaking of which, have any of the Aussie teams announced captains yet?

Gordon at the Tahs?? I wonder if Porecki might be a stronger case given he is the incumbent wallaby skipper and perhaps young Teddy Wilson might get more game time. Maybe Hanigan??

AAA I assume the the Brumby one but does Slipper fill in while he is injured ? Or perhaps Ryan Lonergan gets the gig given the hype around him.

Leota at the Rebels I assume? Maybe Wilkin?

Not sure about the Force. Kaitu’u ? Rodda? White? Rodda just has too many injury concerns right? The other two aren’t guaranteed starters I don’t think. Is Williams a dark horse?

Ryan Lonergan captained the side last year for a number of games, so I'm guessing they'll go with him with AAA out...

Forgot about Tate. Yeah. He’s a strong chance. I think Les is a good chance of mixing up the team a bit so he may want an Uru type at 6 for example. Or a Bryant. Who knows.
But yes Tate a bigger chance than McReight I would think.

Biggest question is probably whether or not Les Kiss wants to keep going with the dual captain model, it has worked well so far though, particularly with one of them injured and free to take on a lot of the media duties the last few years.

I do feel like I've heard a lot of positive mentions of Wright in all the recent media from Les Kiss and Hilton in particular, so I won't be surprised to see him kept in the role, with or without Tate as a co-captain.

If the tahs change I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with a new, longer term captain, bypassing Porecki - Bell or Hanigan, maybe Foketi as an outside chance? Going from Gordon to Porecki feels like a bit more of a lateral move given they're similar ages and career stages, and I worry a bit about Porecki's longevity overall. Sticking with Gordon is still the most likely move for them though.

For the Brumbies I think Slim is probably bang on with Lonergan. They might even go co-captains like the Reds from the start so they can keep him in that role long term and make it a bit easier to manage Ala'alatoa's minutes.

Leota seems to be the go at the Rebels, I can't see them changing it after naming him club captain last year.

Williams is a good shout for the Force, from the outside there's not too many other guaranteed starters amongst the other candidates, from either injury or form. Fines-Leleiwasa or Kuenzle might be other options, but I'd be a bit surprised if Cron went with a new arrival like White, even though he did it last year with Wells.
