Highlight reels are misleading. He didnt lead his team into the finals and generally the clips we saw were against the bottom teams who leaked 40 points per game.
He is still living off the Crusaders game at Leichardt. He is not without talent but good luck to him at the Brumbies, time to move on for the Tahs.
Schmidt thought they were worth enough to select him on a Wallaby tour ahead of Lynagh just 6 months ago.

Poor fella getting the three minutes against Ireland means he's going to be a great trivia question one day

Edmed is fine as a player. If he lands at the Brums I expect him to do well with a strong long term pack and 9.

I reckon he'll look like Meredith does and people will have him in a 3 way convo for the Wallabies. Sports fans have short memories.
You know who’s absolutely killing it? Bernard Foley lol. Apparently leading the vote for Japan League’s player of the season.
Fuck it. Do it. JOC (James O'Connor) is showing old legs can get it done.

But what a game that was...

Katoa was always a League player in the Penrith system who they sent to Barker. Path wasn't there at the Panthers so he signed with the Dolphins. That one was never happening. Same as Cameron Murray when he was at Newington.

Walsh was a hard one as he was a genuine multi sport talent that the NRL got. Have little doubt he'll be a long time play maker for Manly along side Onitoni Large from Scots. Both NSWRU Captains of their age groups with Walsh the Aus 18s Captain.

What we need isa fifth Super team, to give our 10s more chances for first team rugby

Yeah great idea, maybe a major east coast city with a big pasifika community and great stadium infrastructure? the Mutineers has a ring to it

I was thinking the insolvent or the impoverished would have been a better name for a team based that far south.

That gives you a nice guttural chuckle for sure.

I'm choosing to be glass half full until about 11am when iv'e had a gut full of co workers on a Monday.

- Increase from 2 wins to 6
- New Coaches across the board as well as S&C
- New GM and CEO
- Crowds up from an avg of 12k in 2024 to 16k 2025
- Dominate youth sides for the last 3-4 years ( I understand a lot to go on here with development and retention but still good to have. Especially for the Brums and Force future)

There are huge flaws still in the side, no way to deny that and they won't. Don't think DM is the type to gloss over it either. Coaches take time to build the squad they want to play how they design. Don't think their a threat for a title any time soon tbh but they should have expectations of making finals next year at the minimum. Bell not being around is a blow but let make the finals. It's Super Rugby and not that hard.

I'd be all in on a Centre combo of JAS and O'Donnell. Two big bodies who carry well and have an offload in them.

Walton has had his best year and worth keeping as weve seen you need depth but has a ceiling that can be and will be outplayed by just better players. O'Donnell has played a lot of 12 coming through but JAS could also do it as he'd attract defenders and open it up for other outside him. Jorgo back to 15.

Tahs have Wingers with Reilly, Lancaster, Kellaway at this level with Saunders still a good prospect but I really like Cooper Watters from the Aus 20s as a long term player with size, speed and footwork.

Need to sort out flyhalf otherwise it's a pretty talented backline. O'Donnell has looked patchy this year. But he's 22 so he should only improve. I thought they would give Ropata a crack.

Task #1 for DM is to find a midfield up to Super Rugby standard, and probably needs to have a very close look at his defence coach, Lachlan McAffrey.

The Tahs are by far the worst team in the world at giving up critical missed tackles - 28% of their misses lead to linebreaks. (Reds are at 12% as a comparison)
To be fair to McAffrey it's pretty hard to find a stat line for the tahs that is anything better than fair, with most being pretty poor when you dig in - clean breaks, mauls, scrums, lineouts, gainline success, discipline, and it goes on. I do think McAffrey is the weak link in the coaching team, but there's work-ons across the board for them.

Spot on.

It's really O'Donnell's first full year as the Force only used him off the bench 5 times. I think he showed a lot of upside and genuine centres his size are rare. Ropata is interesting as a lot of people rate him but he's been unseen so who knows how he's trained and been rated internally.

McAffrey will be back I think. DM liked him as a player and it's his first year in a full pro coaching environment after winning the JID with the Eagles. Unless there is a gun coach on the market who will get immediate results I don't like the idea of implementing a new structure from the ground again. You would hope they can hit pre-season with a higher base line next year in the same system.
