Big win for Padua that... very short turn around after Tuesday's game and today's weather played right into Laurie's playing style. I do feel on a dry track they would have run away with it.
Hey Barry,
No Damon Humphrys either which makes it even more impressive, kids one of a kind. He’s a very skilful 10 with some toe and some boot which is a big part of his game, can’t wait for the final showdown in round 7. I’m backing Marist to win here after seeing the scoreline they put on Eddie’s today, they’re a good attacking side as seen over the season.

Tough conditions and a big Old Boys crowd at Marist all worked against Eddie’s. Didn’t help that they were 19-0 after 15mins. Hard to comeback from that.

Hard crowd to play in-front of, Marist has a big history for rugby. Eddie’s have been shocking especially since that premiership in 2014 they have only seen a top 3 once in the last 10 years (2022). Now I feel they are considered to be the ‘Easy Beats’ the score lines have been Shocking against the top sides over the years. What could it be a reflection of?

Eddie’s beat St Pat’s last week and have Peter’s this coming week. They won’t finish bottom of the table.
School rugby programs are a challenge to manage, there are no quick fixes.

It’s a shame Eddies aren’t as strong as they were in previous. I hear they are another victim of a GPS raid (IGS) and many of the top line league players are going to Ipswich State High for their league program.

Laurie's very one dimensional against Padua. Iona must be disappointed in their season. Usually one of the front runners.
Laurie's have been 1 dimensional the last 5 years... they had the perfect players to execute that plan during their 3 peat though then Ash and Pad figured out how to stop their Saffa style last year.

Rumour going around that once Iona lost to Ash and Pad in rounds 1 and 2 the boys checked out with a few of the better Leaguies refusing to play + injuries.

Big weekend coming up for the boys from Marist, Villa have been playing some great rugby since they got the win over Iona and will be looking to upset Marist's hopes of challenging Padua in a "grand final" . Should be the game of the round to watch.

IGS and State High League are issues. However the biggest issue for the Eddie’s team is the coach and the people around him. This group of players have the raw ability to be competitive but unfortunately have not been coached the basics of rugby. This group of players would have better results if they coached themselves. Finger Crossed Eddie’s have new coaches onboard next year.

Agreed, St Edmunds Backline has plenty of quality and there are some forwards there with it too, Do not understand how they are not performing. I have heard that the coaching staff are not up to scratch and undermine the players abilities.

It's a tough gig coaching a 1st XV. It needs to be a whole school approach with the 1sts being the flagship.
Quality coaching at A's and B's in each age group
Participation numbers to build competition and culture
A school keen to invest, in resources and opportunities
A Director of Rugby with a small or no teaching load to manage it all

While we all see the benefit of a strong rugby program, for some it isn't worth the cost. They just want their students to be able to run around with their mates on the weekend.

Who is the coach and the people around him, the footy they play looks very sloppy they have talents of Harrison Vidler, Patrick Albion, there number 11 has good footwork and they have other talent in the backline, also having a good few forwards aswell who look dominant a new coach looks like a good option last 5 years they have been poor with a good cattle.

Would be very interesting to see what a new coach could do to the team, it’s unfortunate they have good talent and potential, these talents seeing themselves in the bottom 3 must make them disappointed when they are capable of being a top 3 team as seen in prior years.

All the Eddie’s hate is pretty bizarre, considering that as mentioned earlier they have already beaten Pats. If they win the next two they will be sitting 5th. not much said about Peter’s, Pats and Iona.

As someone interested in the school but with no real connection to it any more, I think this looks like some disgruntled parents or players who may be too afraid to say something in person.

Interesting that someone mentioned they haven’t been successful since 2014. Didn’t they have a pretty good year recently? Did they change coaches recently and the new one isn’t going to well?

Not a parent or a player. All you need to do is go watch a game and anyone with half a rugby brain will realise very quickly it’s a coaching problem with Eddie’s. I’ve stood close to the coaching group during the games and the interaction between coach/es and players is disgusting. If my son was part of the this program he would be removed from the school. Add to this battling with IGS and State High for talent.
