Three years ago, maybe 4, I stood next to Chris Whitacker and Darren Coleman, the Tahs coaches and told them the one schoolboy player they needed to go out of their way to recruit was Isaiya Katoa. At the time he was the Barker College 1st XV 5/8th. He was in a team with Lachlan Hooper and at the end of that year both lads were included as starters in the world XV schoolboy side. He was and still is, to this day the best schoolboy 5/8th I have have seen. Yes he was a league focussed kid, but if a real pathway and money was thrown at him (ala Wayne Bennett & Dolphins style) he may have been convinced to go to the Tahs. We will never know as the approach was not made. Now just in his 3rd season out of school, legends like Joey Johns are talking his name for Origin. If the investment in identifying talent ever needed to be questioned, especially to solve the wallabies 5/8th dillema, Isaiya Katoa is the answer. After this Lions series, where I think we will lose 3 nil, and with a world cup just 2 years away, go and get Katoa now. This kid is the real deal.

Probably not the right thread for it, but I've always been an advocate for throwing a blank cheque at that kid I think he's so special. That being said he's on record saying he'd only consider a switch to union to play for the All Blacks so...

So, once again, the Tahs are responsible for losing our best talent!!! Typical.

Disappointed Valetini & Gleeson are out but must admit I’m pretty keen to see de Crespigny get his crack.

A more disciplined Swinton is probably a good description.

‘Psycho’ sounds pretty accurate too.

Hopefully he can shorten a few of their boys up - it’ll be no easy task but you can imagine he’ll relish the challenge.

He is an OK size for a backrower but not huge. In the Force game he was not able to impose himself on the Loins much. Maybe as part of a larger more dynamic pack he will be more effective? He is tough as nails and will not die wondering.

I can't help but think there is opportunity here. An alternative way of looking at things, is that in an Australian perspective the loins (sic) have locks in the back row. And our guys are dynamic.

At any rate this issue is across the 23. We must find a play that sits outside of mass. It isn't a Schmidt lunacy at all. It is simple reality.
