So is Lonergan and he just did his ACL. Seems more a carry over from the initial squad announcement at the start of the year. Cale isn't even in the Brumbies AU squad. When was his last game?
He's in the same category as Liam Wright so I'm not sure you can really claim the Reds bias.

I came across a south african video of it and every single comment below was a cheering celebration of the toughness of Smith (who I don't think is a dirty player, generally) and the concussion of White.

Very distasteful.

Add to that the constant whining of their captain about every possible incidental contact and it left a pretty sour taste in my mouth.

Yeah Aussie Rules talk about a double action. The game had to do something about it because blokes are pinning the arms and taking players to the ground to get a holding the ball free.
I'm not an expert in the way the citing works but it was reckless and Nic White landed on his head. Maybe not a red card but it was surely something. Unless they just see it as a 'rugby incident'.

Cale is out for the remainder of the year to get his body right for next year.

Yeah it's the wise call. I still reckon these 'likely available' names are not really a good indication of anything. Your greatest attribute as a player is your health. Both Cale and Wright are a ways off breaking into that Wallabies squad. With a strong showing in Super AU Brial would be close to being considered for Spring Tour (depending on what we want to do with Gleeson and Hooper).

If Cale wasn't included in "list" no-one would have any clue what he's doing. Brial and the Reds were off playing in the Pacific Islands the other weekend.

I think the simple version of this story is that one player is not playing due to injury but still under consideration for the Wallabies as mentioned in the most recent squad announcement for South Africa, and while the other player is fit and playing there's no indication they're on the radar for selection...

It’s a bit petty to suggest that Cale is somehow ahead of every other candidate just because his name appears on an injury list. Being listed there only means he’s unavailable, not that he’s higher in the Wallaby pecking order. At the end of the day, he’s currently injured and not fit for selection, which immediately rules him out of contention until he proves otherwise.

Yes, he has one Test start - but let’s be honest, that came in a period when the coach was handing out debuts left, right and centre (Angus Blyth, Isaac Kailea, Darby Lancaster etc). A single appearance doesn’t magically put him ahead of every other option, particularly when other players are fit, playing regularly, and putting together strong seasons.

If we want the Wallabies to improve, it’s worth looking at form, fitness and consistency rather than just flying the flag for “our guy."

But in a way it kind of does, otherwise that list would be significantly longer...

So when the Wallabies put out their squad selection, which includes the players they've deemed unavailable due to injury, they've just left that part blank with an instruction for the media intern to fill it in themselves?

Anyways, this is getting a bit silly...

Charlie Cale isn't playing again this year so if there is a raft of injuries then someone who is not Charlie Cale will be brought in, but he's still obviously highly regarded enough by Schmidt to be included in squad selection releases put out by him.
