Aussie Player Exodus

i also dont think the Reds players could give a shit either - they just want to be coached by the best.
Look I love Cheik - and what he did at the Tahs was one of my favourite rugby moments ( The GF vs the Saders) but the back end of his Wallabies tenure shows that he has a shelf life and he's a hot head as well. compare him to Schmidt and tell me who you'd rather have coach you...

He should coach the reds
His comments about not being able to cause of waratahs and players thinking he was a phony etc are ridiculous.
No one would care. It’s a professional sport. Get over yourself mate. You also coached Argentina against the wallabies.
Correct, he had no issue coaching against Australia. And since he last coached NSW a decade ago he also coached Australia so any parochial bias should have passed….

that been said I’m not pushing for him as coach for QLD but if he is the best candidate then I’d take him

To me the fact that Chieka says he can’t coach qld due old allegiances just shows me he coaches too emotionally. Prefer a coach that doesn’t ride the ups and downs that much and sticks to improving process and systems etc.

Can say all the negatives about the guy but he gets results that shade any other Aussie Coach still in the game (especially the nice guys).

If he and the organisation knew he’s here for 3 years only. They’ll peak and be excellent. You just need to be ready to move on and not think you’re the girl to change the rat bag guy.

you remove RWC results and he has the worst win % of any professional era wallaby coach barring Rennie.

The amount of text I've read on this site about not having coaching pathways in Australia only for people to suddenly say we should parachute Chieka into the Reds because there's an opening?

Pah-lease. Michael needs to realise that as a senior coach his roles and responsibilities change. He should be looking to move away from hands on coaching to a director level and share his knowledge across the board.

If he still wants to be hands on, then he would be better off finding an up and coming coach like the Kefus, Latham etc and help advise and train the next generation of coaches.

on the clown thing... Can someone actually explain to me what the SMH was trying to say with the clown picture? what did he do/say to be branded a clown? of all the nasty things you could call him, I never thought a clown would be one of them...

That was the NZ Herald and from memory there had been a bit of press conference diplomacy from Cheika in the lead up to a bledisloe.

Aussie press had Richie as a witchitty Grub before the 2015 WC final. So this was NZ Herald returning serve as the ABs were going for a WC test win streak.

Cheika definitely leant into it to take some attention off the players after another Eden Park loss

This was just after the bugging accusations as well, so Cheika was pretty fed up with NZ journos (at least he seemed to be - always seemed a bit of a Mourinho-style take the focus off the players thing to me)

Not talking about coaching the Wallabies though. The guy has a trophies across world in professional club rugby.

This all only started because he’s just a guy who will be linked to any job. Realistically unlikely but his name will be thrown around because of his achievements.

Cheika is a passion machine but his Wallabies teams played technically and tactically inept football. They had talent, work ethic and the desire to win but they made themselves easy to beat by tactically getting things wrong game after game (picking wrong options, gifting opposition easy 22 entries, never kicking to relieve pressure or put pressure on the opposition and being shockingly ill disciplined). It's a stark contrast to the Schmidt era which I would say has largely been defined but removing the elements of our game that made them inconsistent and easy to get on top of for the top teams
