Ireland v Wallabies, Saturday 15/11 (Sunday morning Aus time)

Well that was a hard game to watch. Errors all over the place from our boys. Our backline did our forwards few favours with JOC (James O'Connor) looking like a player who'd just rejoined the squad. Shape looked a mess at times. Defence went missing early on. Our lineout went to pieces without Frost on.

Sprinkle in some uneven refereeing from uncalled offsides to players boring in on scrums all just led to a hard watch for a Wallabies supporter.

And if a dummy runner takes him out the penalty will go the other way. You can not hit a man in the head, it's really that simple. Had he not hit him high he wouldn't have had anything to answer for.
You've got to admit its rather daft though. Frost's feet are planted. What person isn't going to brace in that split second (which is what we're talking about on slowmo). It's like the unexpected consequences of our penalties meaning that players led more and more with their head into contact.

Schmidt still trying to call positives
Just be up front and say we were shit
Set piece was crap
High ball was non existent
We don’t have a decent 9 or 10
You could pull 30 halves from the nrl and they would do a better job
Feel like we need to send some of our backs to a AFL team over the summer to finally resolve our obvious shortcomings in this area of the game, otherwise it's going to be nothing but a bombardment come the RWC.

know he looked disjointed tonight but I hardly think he’s to blame.
Agreed. Beating this wallabies team is easy; have a solid defence where you wait for an opportunity to put pressure on the wallabies ruck, win a penalty, kick it up field, get possession back from the line out, kick a contestable kick to the wallaby midgets in the back, get ball back in or around 22, put pressure on a static defence line and score points after awhile.

I like to joke about private schools of course, but I'll admit they develop some fabulous players.

Most of whom are only in that private school because of NRL agents, play a couple of years of schoolboy rugby, then go play NRL.
The irony of ragging on the private school system when we were just thrashed by Leinster

Fuck sake, sick of our players and coaches lying every week and saying they'll empty the tank and be better next week

That was our biggest ever loss against Ireland and nearly double the next biggest margin (some people claiming they're on the slide), another unwanted record for Schmidt

This is going to be our second worst year in history and maybe the first time we've lost ten games in a year

Contrary to claims that we've improved, I've never seen such a big and sustained drop off in form since Townsville, that's nine games in a row that we have regressed
They are, it's World Rugby's own rankings making that claim. A big win against a poor, error ridden Wallabies outfit did precisely zero to debunk that claim.

Where's the beef

Fred Wood (13)
I think we have to temper our expectations a little. I said before they went away that this was going to be hard and so it is proving.

We are a long way from our strongest 15 on the field and that is injury driven.

We are in these games for the first 60 and then fall away.

1. England 10-7
2. Italy 19-12 Up
3 Ireland 19-14

Its the last 20 when the depth is tested and we are caught short. It will be the same next week unless France don't show which can happen.

Joe can only pick who he can pick. There is no major wand here.

I do think that we need dungunu in this side for direction.
I do think that the round the corner strategy up front relies on fast ball and forwards in motion both of which is not happening
I do think that Jake Gordon is in the side to keep the game out of our 22 with his box kicking. He clears it, then our D does not knock them flat and we are back there again holding on.
There is a country mile between Ikitau and the next at 12.
There is a country mile between skelton and the next in terms of physicality and arrogance, both of which are needed
There is 2 country miles between tom wright and anyone else at 15.
There is a country mile between Tates running game and the next 9.

1. We have to fix the aerial battle. It killed us tonight
2. We need to forget the next result, it matters not and play Lonegan at 9 and see what he and the other kid brings. We have to know. We should already.
3. Not sure what happened in the lineout, but, 4 5m opportunities for 4 losses, really hurts.
4. We cant just keep giving 30m to wait till our defensive line is set.
5. We need alot more out of JAS on attack. He just has to back his size and go. He is playing like a kid who is afraid of making a mistake, rather than bring your best tackle because i will run over you.

Long way to go still. And yes, we are a tier 2 unless we have all fit and well.
