No doubt some have been there since year 7 and even earlier whilst others have arrived in later years for varying reasons.

Looking forward to the answers.
Also with Josh Schwager out due to injury year 7
And O'Donahue came in Year 11 as a full payer due to 3 or 4 generations on his Mothers side.

I think we all look forward to the answers.[/quote]

So....Bartlett went from the Methodists to the Marist Brothers: quite a conversion.

Something irks me about naming schoolboy players on a widely read internet forum. I'm happy to discuss concepts, organisations, and more general opinions but at the end of the day many of these guys are nowhere near being of a professional standard and will probably be outside chances for a spot in a 1sts Colts side next year. Pretty far from the rationale when it comes to celebs ("they're in the public sphere").

Imagine the reaction of many of them having two faceless individuals arguing over their right to a spot in the schools 1sts team?

Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

I share some of your irk but they get mentioned in the GPS thread weekly if not daily.

Yeah I see what you mean.

I'm a reasonable chap, I completely get why people would talk like this about schoolboy players. It's easy it see this as another conversation between mates about rugby that just happens to take place on the net but in reality you might be semi-anonymous but the kids aren't (I say kids but I'm only 3 years past this age bracket).

Many of these kids just love their footy.

Many of the "suspect scholarship cheats" are just kids who love footy.

Many of them are genuinely nice kids.

Many of them are simple pawns and colateral damage in the GPS rugby arms race and are being used by the root cause of the GPS rugby arms race protagonists.

The Sydney GPS rugby arms race is not limited to season 2012. I do not think that naming and shaming this years cohort and the year they started with a particular school is actually going to achieve anything.

I like to refer to my earlier post on the reasons why people get "upset" over "imports/bursaries/scholarships".

Please stop using the word cheats when referring to the kids. You are the only poster that does this, none of them have done anything wrong. I think you are deliberately muddying the waters by doing this.

I would have thought all of them, which ones do you think are not nice?

Collateral damage? How are they injured? You are the first to suggest a GPS education is a bad thing.

You know exactly what it will achieve.Just look at this thread, certain rabid supporters have gone to ground as soon as this has been mentioned, because they also know exactly what it will show.

I like to refer to my earlier post on the reasons why people get "upset" over "imports/bursaries/scholarships".

That is fine HJ, if only certain bloggers on here didn't swear, on whatever holy book they believe in, that sports scholarships don't exist at their GPS school. I put forward two Newington students with a please explain and a certain "rugbygirl" totally ignored that and suggested that no names had ever been mentioned and the reason for that was scholarships don't exist.

Bloggers can't say name players, then when names are mentioned - ohh no names please.

Could almost suggest there are no scholarship holders in Joeys. Only, Bartlett, Robertson and Sandell could be questioned - could be wrong, though.

I said I don't think there should be names, not anybody who's been in this scholarship argument. I have no links to the GPS system nor do I have an anti or pro scholarship view, I do however think they can be good or bad depending on how/why they are employed.

I'm beginning to see that this thread is overall not one of interesting conversation but rather one of arguing that goes around in circles.

The point is many bloggers are saying sports scholarships don't exist, where it quite obvious that they do. It is like denying the earth is round and the earth doesn't rotate around the sun or evolution is anti-god. When people say well here is proof, certain people then go; that is not fair or it is not in anyone's interest - what BS.

As I the said I would have had no hestiation in accepting a scholarship on behalf of my boys; but that doesn't make it right.

It is not the fault of the boys or their families; it is the fault of the certain schools within the GPS who for whateva reason - be it ego or anniversary etc; it is against GPS by-laws; it makes the GPS competition a joke so a select bunch of old boys or providers can get their rocks off and finally and this is my main belief it is actually causing problems to rugby at the senior level - by making a already shallow players pool even shallower.

yes, well, rugby girl doesn't appear to have had an answer - not yet anyway - to those issues.
However I'm starting to doubt he validity of this issue: why shouldn't a kid who in the opinion of the school powers is considered a worthwhile addition because of his "leadership" be given a scholarship? Education is not, except at SBHS and SGS, all about a mark in the HSC and less scholastically gifted people go on to lead worthwhile lives.
BTW HJ your points concerning the role the kids play is a good one and I am sure that most if not all the kids are nice kids.
they are being used but hopefully they get something out of it: in respect of the kids already signed to play league I has me doubts because of the demands that will be placed in them which will interfere, I suspect, with completing their education.
I would like to be told I am wrong about this.

Another angle - if the specific now aRugby masters at some schools are partly remunerated on the basis of success, then surely they will be looking for the best "cattle" available to ensure they can maximize their remuneration

Maybe cost was a factor? Or like in my case the local Catholic School only went to 4th form.... Very Cynical Whatever. I know one of the aforementioneds father had a major job transfer that moved them to Sydney

Wasn't being cynical???? The only boys listed to arrive at Joeys after year 7 were Bartlett, Robertson and Sandell. I did state the indicator was there were no scholarship holders at Joeys.

Jez, quite a few bloggers have gone to ground after the teams were listed. The silence is amazing from the "there are no scholarships" mob.

Against my better judgement I'll respond to this.

Who are you talking about? This thread has had no more or less activity that usual since those team lists. Who are these "bloggers"? You keep referring to them "going to ground" but in the last 5 pages this thread has been posted on mostly by the same 5-6 accounts.

You are fighting an online war against your own shadow.

Yeah whateva. I don't intend to read every post for you, so I suggest you go back about 12 pages and read the various posts; but note this, I'm not talking about you, therefore you can stop looking over your shoulder.

My personal stubbornness in me is refusing to allow me to not reply to this.

The teams that people are "going to ground" over were named on the last page and the poster ignoring the names (perhaps they just stopped coming online?) was on page before that, why should I go back 12 pages?

If you can name me 5 posters that are part of the "no scholarships mob" who have posted more than once on this thread I'll drop this but I really think you're arguing against a figment.
