Anyone heard if Simmons has been cited for that Tackle?
Georgina Robinson just tweeted that Simmons has been cited for a lifting tackle, hearing tbc.

Expect Adam Thomson will be receiving a call from the citing comm for his attempt at a tango today too.

I think Cooper is right about what is going on in the ARU and deans coaching style. Cooper should get his Money back after his Fine.
That performance certainly gives QCs claim more credibility Biggsy. Still, there were better ways to get his point across.
Genia and QC (Quade Cooper) are sorely missed by the Wobs right now.

I honestly didn't think Simmons tackle was that bad except for been late.. Penalty offense yes, maybe a yellow card but I didn't think it warranted a red card.

For all the discussion about swapping players in and out of the team for the match against England, it probably won't have much effect given that the team is playing with no discernible plan.

Offloads
  • When hitting the ball up and not attempting to offload, drives low in contact rather than keeping high body contact placing himself in a position to be held up or turned over in the tackle.
If the 12 hits the line with low body height to prevent being held up, then he goes to ground and HAS to place the ball.
Every time McCabe is criticised for the way he hits it up, by coincidence the piggies have had a shocker and have been dominated at contact.
In the modern game it is an expectation that when the 12 crashballs, he has a posse of pigs right behind him at contact.
As an aside has it been mentioned that the forwards appeared to be in assembled in pods, yet the pod just stood behind and watched the ball carrier get smashed at contact, time after time?

McCabe isn't big enough to bend the line unless he is put through a hole.

Seriously trying to compare him to say, Nonu, well actually there is little comparison to be made. Nonu outweighs him by a considerable amount, has relatively the same pace, can actually distribute (what's a cut-out pass?), has real vision for an overlap and actually commits tacklers and bends the line when he takes a crash ball directly into contact.

I love McCabe's heart and guts but he isn't an international 12 for a menagerie of reasons.

But if he runs upright into contact he should be looking to offload. If he can't offload, he should go low and leg drive to gain some extra ground before placing the ball and recycling. McCabe needs to learn to offload or learn to go low. He is not doing himself any favours by being stuck between the two alternatives.

You are right that he needs players with him to take the offload (if he goes high) or secure the breakdown (if he goes low) and this isn't happening. But the lack of support is true for all of the backline at the moment.

I was doing early Christmas shopping with my daughters at Chatswood on Sunday and saw someone wearing the Wallabies jersey. I couldn't decide if he was an incurable optimist (hello WJ?) or if he had recorded the game but not watched it yet.

Are you sure it wasn't John Howard and he's taken up mall walking?

This has been a major issue for the Wallabies for some time now.

And it's one thing I enjoyed about the Argies on the weekend - continually offloading the ball from the tackle that had the Welsh defence in a mess.

It seemed they changed from a McCabe crash ball to a Palu crash ball with McCabe on his shoulder during the first half.

Quite brilliant stuff, amazing the French could defend it.

I counted only 2-3 times that the ball got to Taps or beyond. The first time he straightened beat his man and passed back inside to McCabe who made a half break.

Yet again Deans' and/or The Wallabies lack of a Plan B was evident.
Surely there comes a time when hundreds of cross field pick n drives for zero result would encourage a different approach.
Not sure whether to get angry or just be sad after this effort.

Not unless being relieved of the pressure of public has made him grow about a foot and made his hair grow back and turn black.

Plus it was a jersey and not a tracksuit.

He definitely had more touches than that, particularly as he apparently turned the ball over more than any other player.

A few may have been when he came in closer to kick? I should have said 'where during a running play the ball got to the 13 channel or beyond'

If you get the chance, watch Simmons effort, or lack thereof just before his lifting tackle.
He has been on the field maybe 90 seconds when France put up a midfield bomb.
He turns, has a look at the ball in the air and then somehow decides not to go anywhere near catching it or contesting it.....soft.
Conversely, every time I see Nick Cummins play he puts his body on the line and goes 100% at everything.
Cummins mightn't be the most skilful player we have but if it's trench warfare, he'll do me.
