All I can say is thank god I don't support the Tahs. They aren't even my team but my word they are beyond frustrating to watch. No consideration for just doing the simple things right.

Never have they needed Barnes more than now. There is absolutely no organisation in the backline.

And Tom Carter. Come on seriously how can Cheika pick this guy with a straight face?

George Smith. Legend.

The more I watch the Waratahs, the more I believe that at least some of their backline problems start at half back. Yes, he did get some bad ball, but you don't mindlessly shovel bad ball onto your first receiver. When a half back pass from a lineout is intercepted by a player who is well onside - there's a problem. If the 9 is going to pass the ball to a runner every time he has the ball, then he's not questioning the defence at all. The Brumbies stood up flat, moved up quickly and slowed the ball down and our half just kept passing it to the next sitting duck. Lucas and Hart must be given an opportunity to see if they are better than this.

Agree with what you say about Carter, but if the backs have no time or space it probably won't matter who you have there.

.../...snip.../. I was expecting a really competive game but that was an A Grade First Class Top Notch Old School ass kicking.

Fixed.

Hopefully that was the wake up call that the Tahs needed ...... or was it the traditional mid season wheels falling off the Tah wagon, that we are so used to, coming early?

To me it seems Cheika has the blinkers on regarding his new style of play and is reluctant to change it anytime soon. He feels hard work is the answer and they just need to keep at it.

I'm not sure how Waratah fans will react if they are asked to wait before the results start to show, particularly on the back of last season.

He didn't have much of a problem with the back 3 and said it's up to the other players to make sure the ball gets out there for them to use it.

I did notice Drew Mitchell playing first receiver on numerous occasions and would be interesting if this was a deliberate ploy.

It was a wake up call to me.
All this talk about a new style and attitude, is more hyperbole than anything.
Under pressure, they revert to one pass from the ruck to a static "runner".
Their kick chasing is no better either, but that is more about attitude than talent.I am no fan of TC,but at least he will fucking chase.
Cheika has a lot of culling to do with this squad.

Most of the squad being out of contract at the end of the year will be a huge opportunity for cheika to stamp his style on the 2014 Tahs.

If I was coaching the Waratahs, I would definitely force them to watch that match.

What happened to AJ Gilbert? Maybe having an honest toiler in the team will shame the others into caring?

Cheika has to be ruthless now - anyone not burning to play and win can have a rest. Bring in anyone in the squad who wants it.

Well, I have to say I thought Tahs would be a bit better than they showed so far this year. They were pretty average at times last night, is Cheika stuck with players he doesn't want, because a few of them are sure not buying into what he said they were going to do preseason. I not sure how anyone could possibly be pointing at Folau and saying he looks like a Wallaby against the Lions, Oz would have a few wingers well ahead of him in pecking order I would imagine (mind you Deans did pick Tahu a couple of years back a leaguie who had nothing in union). If I was picking team, Mowen at this early stage would be a certainty at 8, really like his style of play, and not a fan of the crash up boys like Palu and Samo. Think I would also just have a quiet chat to George Smith, I know he only here temporary, but would be worth considering him for squad, if he can keep reproducing last nights form.

I don't think McKibbin should take too much if any of the blame for that.
Dennis, I think, got 2 hands to the ball and slam dunked it so that it hit the ground half way between the lineout and McKibbin. WTF?
From the moment it left Dennis' hands the Brumbies were permitted to encroach within the 10 and White was allowed beyond the 15. Why were they so keen to take the ball off the top anyway? That's a play for later in the game, i would have thought.
I accept maybe McKibbin should not have thrown the ball but I'll forgive him on the basis of the clusterfuck in the lineout.
If you were to coach McKibbin not to throw passes from bad ball he'd be playing one out on last night's lineout performance.
This is why i say the Tahs are way behind Cheika's improvement curve.

Still time for Smith..but..he needs to show he is still consistently good over the coming weeks to warrent consideration. What I won't do is rule players out just because of age and the mantra it's time to bring younger players though. If he's good enough bring George back and let Hooper and Gill profit from his experience. Hooper (21) and Gill (20) both have plenty of time. Doesn't mean Goerge needs to start but he's a great option to have. It depends on if Deans is shaping his squad for the WC or if he wants a win now squad for the Lions.

Well Deans appears to be aiming short terms especially given his contract expires at the end of the year.

If I'm right, nobody has been cited so far this season (Except Ardie Savea, but that was pre-season), so will Ben Alexander be cited? If so, chances are he will be suspended and made an example of, yeah?

I have to say I'm with qwerty on this one. I wouldn't pick folau for the lions but I think he will be a wallaby spring tourist if he sticks around. Give him 10 more games to iron the kinks out and he will start to produce the goods.

The tahs looked directionless. It was very noticeable how much the scrum declined when Timani went off. He might be the price we pay for scrum dominance come lions time.

I reckon Deans needs to pull rank on white and ask him to move Lilo back to 10 in case Cooper fails to rediscover his form.
