Yeah. Weekend after Labour day was the date said last night. Finals in late July, then the new ARU comp running after that.

Anything to share? Nothing on the VRU website, Powerhouse won't have to many home games in the first have of the season with the early start. A few other clubs will struggle to have there grounds back from the Cricket clubs they share with.

Nah I saw nothing, just passing on the stuff I heard.

Clubs getting access to grounds in March will be an issue with only 4 clubs, IIRC, allowed on their ground that early.

so on the reasonable assumption that the VRU/Rebels win one of the new NRC franchises, what's the name?
before the VRU team became the Axemen, we were just Victoria, but the second vic team was known as the Hornets.
someone on one of the other threads suggested renegades, but isnt that already a cricket team.
storm - taken
melbourne - too provincial
port philip pirates - too obscure
raiders, steelers, penguins ("go the fairies!")
any proper ideas

News from Boroondara

Had a special meeting on Sunday 15th December 2013 at the Auburn Road Club rooms.
This was to do the following.
1)Resolution 1: Change the name from Borrondara Rugby Union Football Club to Kiw-Hawthorn Rugby Union Football Club.
2)Resolution 2: A change to the Constitution to be amended to state that the Junior Club retain and play under the name Boroondara Rugby Union Football Club.
After some debate, both resolutions were voted on and both resolutions passed.
I hope with this new name change this will reinvigorate the club and get us back to being the competitive club we once were.

On behalf of the committee we all look forward to meeting you all in the 2014 season.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

President KHRUFC

from the VRU website this morning
All RaboDirect Rebels players have been appointed a Dewar Shield club, and if they are not selected in the match 23 or injured they will be playing in the Dewar Shield on a weekly basis

good news

Seems that round 11 will be a "Friday night" round. I love night rugby.

Does not make much sense, Round 12 would be the ideal round for Friday night rugby as the test match is on that Saturday and it makes it to much of a rush otherwise.

Friday night could be a struggle with 3 grades. When does Prems kick off? About 11pm?

I think it would only be first grade, the others would play on Saturday? Not all grounds are equipped for night games either.

This is from the Rebels site.
In 2014, some of these key features include:
  • The competition commencing four weeks earlier than 2013 (March 22nd) in order to accommodate the new National Rugby Championship
  • The Grand Final will be played on August 16th
  • The top five finals series of 2013 will be replaced with a top four finals series in 2014
  • Harlequin and Melbourne will play a Grand Final re-match in Round One. Round One will also see Moorabbin play Footscray, with both sides having qualified for the Semi-finals in 2013
  • The Round Eleven, June long weekend matches will be played at venues which can host Friday night matches
  • All RaboDirect Rebels players have been appointed a Dewar Shield club, and if they are not selected in the match 23 or injured they will be playing in the Dewar Shield on a weekly basis

This is from the Rebels site.

This is great unless you are Southern Districts, then you lose your home ground advantage (or do they have council money for lights?)....

Also what happened to the mid season cup? is it still on?

So as a quick survey how many grounds can play at night? From memory:

Melbourne
Quins
Uni
Box Hill (at a stretch, only on number two and only remember 2 light stands)

Where else?
