I would say that when you aren't paying for a bloke to be a full time professional, it's a bit rich to try and judge what he is doing for the other 3/4 of a year.

NRC teams will already favour local players they have better access to and can actually watching throughout the season anyway. If they are considering somebody external, it's because they look better than the locals.

I suppose it then comes down to how much are they getting paid.. Your probably right if the NRC teams are only paying for them for 1/4 of the year then what right do they have.

Unless of course you state well your in our team unless your at super rugby your a professional rugby player in the NRC.. you will train be available and basically work all year round for the NRC team..

I dunno the whats the best answer .. wish i did

Given enough time, a hypothetical chimpanzee typing at random would, as part of its output, almost surely produce one of Shakespeare's plays (or any other text).

Want to be Crusader.

Brumbies will always be our whipping boys and don't you forget it.

Whipping boys with all your trophies up there in Tah land. I know it's easy to give us Canberra boys stick but who are you to say anything when this is the most important event in your clubs history ;)

So Randwick will allegedly be combining with Eastern Suburbs and NSW Country..

This leaves 9 teams, 8 would have been better but unless Syd Uni agree to merge then that won't be happening. I'l actually go further and say 6 teams would have been better again, but considering the political landscape of rugby union, we were never going to have 6 teams.

-Brisbane
-QLD Country
-North Harbour Rays
-Western Suburbs
-Sydney Stars(Syd Uni & Balmain)
-Randwick, Eastern Suburbs, NSW Country
-Melbourne
-Perth
-University of Canberra Vikings

Terror says nine, geerob says 10 and wayne smith goes on a rant about his mate.

Announcement expected on monday.

western suburbs team is definitely the Greater Sydney Rams.

Recapping alot of the information from the past four months

-Brisbane in ballymore presumably
-QLD Country based out of bond/gold coast
-North Harbour Rays (4ss teams) North Sydney oval, brookvale and bluetongue colours most likely blue and green
-Greater Sydney Rams (5 ss teams) parra and 5 fields from ss teams colours are orange and blue
-Sydney Stars (usyd balmain) Leichardt oval, colours are black blue and gold
-Randwick UNSW possibly in cahootes with; possibly myrtle green again
-Eastern Suburbs, NSW Country - played out of various locations
-Rebels Rising colours probably inverted rebels
-Perth
-University of Canberra Vikings played out of UC, colours black and red

Online this morning, it reads as though UNSW won't be part of the merger, or not as integral as they were previously touted.

Thank you, TOCC. Much appreciated.

You've also unearthed an absolute gem for me; as rich a collection of journalistic howlers as I've ever come across in the one article in a capital city paper - even one of Loopy Old Rupey's:

"it's creation"

"Joining the Randwick-Easts-Country team from Sydney is expected to be three others" - It should read "Joining the Randwick-Easts-Country team from Sydney are expected to be three others" because in plain English it would read "Three others are expected to be joining the Randwick-Easts-Country team ..."

"There is also expected to be two teams from Queensland"

"the inability of the clubs to see eye to eye has been a major stalling point, as has been questions of finance"

Oops, I have just realised that this piece was written by my mate Jamie. I will have to keep a close eye on Twitter to see whether Iain Payten gives me another endorsement.

so coast is country and country is coast. final thought on this one. calling them just country will just confuse fans.

why not just call teams nsw country & coast. qld country & coast. ties things together in a bow. won't get the proverbial question. why do qld country play out of bond? why do nsw country train out of east sydney?

What I find strange is that the Waratahs/NSWRU are not involved in their local NRC franchises. Brumbies are part of the Vikings/UC consortium. Reds splitting between two QLD franchise. Rebels and Force driving the bus for Perth and Melbourne.

I hoping that the SS clubs getting involved and taking ownership will help to link the NRC with (and maybe even reinvigorate) the grassroots in Sydney.

If you look at how NSW Rugby is fractured into three separate board; Sydney Rugby Union, Waratahs ltd and NSWRU it appears less strange and less surprising.

TOCC, it makes one wonder WTF the NSWRU do. Waratahs Rugby Pty Ltd look after the Tahs, NSW Country RU runs rugby over the Blue Mountains and on the North, Central and South Coasts, SRU run the various premier comps in Sydney, NSWSRU run subbies, Sydney JRU run juniors and the various school bodies run their respective comps. I'd dearly like to know what role the NSWRU performs.

Part of the plan the ARU had for long term sustainability was that the 4 sydney clubs had to be self sustaining. Because they don't receive funds from the ARU/state union they don't have to involve them. The other teams have funding directly through the hierarchy.

They hold meetings and supply delegates to the ARU. Apart from that, their function is one of life's great mysteries.:)
