Simmons is nice and straight and stiff. The Stormers player has overextended reaching for the ball, causing him to lose balance and lose the support from his lifters. The modern lift - front on the thighs, back underneath the buttocks - only offers support while the jumper is nice and straight and stiff. They don't hold you upright, they only hold you up, if you get what I mean. Once you're up there, if you tilt either way you're toast.

Oh, and Simmons might have a huge wingspan too. Who knows.
Regarding Genia, way too many kicks. Thought his running game was better (largely thanks to static Stormers defence) and he found his forward runners better, allowing the Reds to get a roll on more often, but gees he kicks way too much. Teams have his "box kick away turnover ball" tactic worked out these days, so it's a complete waste of good possession.
Regarding Quade, wish he'd put away the kicks in the attacking 22. Or at least, put them away until they practice them endlessly at training.

Reds didn't score tries due to Stormers sufficating defensive pattern. I have no problem watching the Stormers lose, they kill games by not committing at all to the ruck, fanning out in defense and just waiting, waiting, waiting, before securing a turnover and hoofing it down field.
I hope their fans desert them for this rugby crime. The Reds whilst not brilliant in attack were at least trying but have plenty of work to do in that department too.

I don't know about the Reds. Haven't impressed me at all this year. I realise there are a few injuries etc and some adjustment to a new coach but I thought they should have won more comfortably especially after the Stormers lost Aplon and Burger earlier in the tour. Genia needs to pick up his game.
Will be an interesting game this week against Force and I may end up with egg on my face, lets hope not.

I actually don't have a massive concern about how the Reds are playing. We are creating opportunities against all sides, and in an alternate world we might have a few more points on the table. But in the real world, we don't and we just have to keep ticking the boxes. Considering travel etc, it was a good win.
If we lose to the Force our season is over, and essentially theirs is too if they lose. Plenty on the line.

Don't konw if it's season over but for sure it wouldn't be great. A bit of a bottle neck forming in the Aus conference. I never like the first game back after a bye. Always want to keep the ball rolling when you have some form. It'll be on for sure.
I'm surprised there wasn't more dropped ball Ruggo. It was nearly like Darwin in late spring and an early monsoon.

I am one of Will's critics lately. Not only Brumbies' fans though - read Bob Dwyer's take on Will in his most recent article.
I acknowledge that Will is improving and I see him starting at 9 for the Wallabies later in the year, but he is not yet at his best. That is what I've been saying. I would like to see an improvement in his on-field decision making. Seems to me that he often goes the wrong way following a ruck as though he has a predetermined line of attack (game plan) rather than looking to see the area where the defence is at its weakest. Like how his running game is improving and how he seems to have put away the diabolical box kick. His long kicking game is exceptional when he chooses it.

Genia's long kicking game is good.
My issue is his decision making regarding kicks. He is almost robotic now in kicking away turnover ball, and teams expect it. In recent games we have actually lost field position when turning over opposition ball thanks to Genia's kicks!
My other issue is that Genia's a bit robotic now with his style of play, he has missed a few running options earlier this year that he would've taken 2 or 3 years ago.
I actually disagree slightly with Dwyer on some aspects. To me, Dwyer tends to be locked in one to two decades old rugby. Most modern halfbacks will scoot first before passing, particularly vs static defence. This stops the pillars and posts from early sliding across field.
The slide defence these days is so much better than in Dwyer's coaching days that if you repeatedly just pass from the ground and put it through the hands, then even two man overlaps will be shut down quite easily. I suspect that if Dwyer coached a modern pro rugby team that they would look a little like the Stormers on attack - one dimensional and easily read.
Halfbacks need to be able to pass off the ground and maybe should do it more, but you can't criticise halfbacks for scooting first as it's a proven tactic.
