Don't know of the final score as I left with Newington hard on attack with minutes to go, but Knox were leading 45 - 14 (7 tries to 2)

Does anyone have a likely first XV for Waverley or even the team that played Cranbook.
I also have heard they are not that strong this year (although a little surprised). I know next year or esp 2016 they will be a very decent side. Their 16As should do very well

Could be a long season for Waves. Have they been hit by Team Rehab?

Fairly ordinary results so far.

Trinity were very average today... expected a lot more from them. Saying this, Stannies were fluent in many parts of their game today. Notable players were #13, #7 and #9 but really the team as a whole must be commended. Trinity have an upcoming game against St. Pat's which is always a thriller. Hopefully Trinity can put up more of a fight against Pat's.

Not sure of the score at the end of the New v Knox game but New were terrible. While they did have a lot of players out and it was the first game it was not good enough for a GPS School. The only thing worse was the refereeing, it was disgraceful. Which was a shame as the rest of the day had good fair refereeing. Knox deserved to win most definitely but the guy in the middle was an embarassment.

What do you mean not good enough for a GPS School?
Last year 3 GPS Schools played their 1's in a thirds comp.
Newington fielded their 1st XV in the 2nds comp, whilst an invitational side competed on their behalf in the 1's comp.
Another GPS School couldn't win a game last year.
And yet another GPS School was sanctioned for the manner in which they fielded a 1st XV.
Doesn't leave many Schools left,to be upholding these lofty standards to which you ascribe!

no lofty standards, just expect better rugby from those boys. Sorry if I stirred up the chip that lives on your shoulder

Meanwhile in the nursery, Knox 14As won 2 tries to nil v 2013 13A GPS winners New, following on from a 7 tries to 2 win over Joeys last week. Early days I know and aths missing from GPS teams, but Yr 9s on cadet camp missing from Knox. With 16As also winning against Joeys last week and 15As close with a strong Joeys side, augurs well for the future of Knox rugby.

Yes 25-15, 5 tries to 2 tries.
Aloys deserved the victory. Their rolling maul was strong, and their backline exposed the Pius weaknesses (missing their centre with concussion meant a reorg in their backline and it was exposed several times because players were playing out of position, and many times far too flat in attack). An Aloys intercept try, and a try against 14 men probably shouldn't have occurred because of an earlier "head high", but that's the game. Still 5 tries to 2. The Pius "Old Boys" played like a 16th man many times with several mistakes made by Aloys players on the "Old Boys" touch line - quite amusing at times.
Aloys backline were solid across the board, and Pius defended very well in the second half with almost the entire second half played on their try line.

Great news re cranbrook ... Although shame they didn't hang on for the win. Hopefully it will be an interesting year in cas. Talking nursery I hear cranbrooks under 13s are continuing on their good form from prep school ... And maybe worth a look.

Round 2 on May 10 will be the date, to see if cranbrook rugby programme really is on the rise

That's my point silly.
On what basis do you expect better results?
Your 1st's last year was almost to a man, imported.
So what should have been your 1st's,came last in the 2's comp.and what should have been your 2's,were winless in the 3's comp.
Hardly the foundations of a winning Rugby program is it?

Rip, for the 16s I'm quoting from Knox match report saying they won 16as 26-19. If they have that arse about, then humble apologies. As for other results you quote, I'm not spruiking some general Knox over Joeys renaisassance, merely positing that Knox has a pretty fair 14A -16A cohort, which should present a fair 1st/2nd cohort in years to come.

I think the old boys are a good part of the fun but I know Aloysius has banned them from being anywhere near the action over the last couple of years.

The side is young and I think we will see good improvement in the second half of the season but expect some big blowouts in the first couple of games again Knox and barker in particular

Knox defeated Newington 54-14. I have heard Newington were only missing 3 players due to athletics, therefore I think it is fair to say the 2013 GPS winners were shocking. Knox were solid after a weak performance against Joeys last week, playing more as a team and less as individuals. Knox will definitely be the team to beat this year in the CAS competition.
