One last thing to post on this thread - Thank you Link for all the hard work you put into the Wallabies over the past 16 months (and Australian rugby beyond that). Unlike others I thought that the Wallabies had bridged the gap with our leading competitors (draw and 1 point loss to the ABs - Wellington I thought was an aberration; win and hard fought loss to the Springboks) over the past 12 months and almost achieving a grand slam at the end of last year (only defeated by some piss poor officiating - 'not enough obstruction' wtf). Good luck in your future endeavours, except if you happen to be coaching against a team I support!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Good coach and by all accounts an even better person. I wish him all the best in his future.

I want to players, journalists, ARU officials who poured petrol onto what should have been a simple non issue, into an incident that has disgraced Australian rugby and the fans who week in, week out, turn up to the games, rock up to the pub, make the trip across the dutch and duly watch the slaughter, etc etc.

This whole fucking shitfight has me on the verge of walking away. I'm a rugby tragic, and I will always love the game, but right now i'm not drunk enough to put up with this.

What should simply have been a shithead player being told to fuck off after his umpteenth indiscretion, has resulted in this.

Well, yes. They do have a right to defend their mate if they want BUT by doing so they put the Wallaby jersey second. To me, what Beale did wasn't just disrespectful and insulting to Patston but also to the institute of the Wallaby jersey, culture, history and traditions. As a current Wallaby, to think that sending those texts/messages were OK or funny says something about what it means to Beale to be a Wallaby. For anyone to come out and publicly support him, they are doing no less to the Wallaby jersey than what he did and that's to walk all over it.

Thanks Bullrush, this pretty much sums up the angst I have over this and my perception of the 'culture' of the wallabies.

If mateship and loyalty just exists to enable mediocrity, fuck it.

Hooper is an inspirational player and I agree with those that think he can grow into a great captain. Obviously the wallabies have become a young team, in terms of emotional maturity and professionalism.

The experienced players that you would expect to drive and to model the standards and expectations of a wallaby have been injured, dropped or exported to France and Japan. Unfortunately these are also the players that know how to (at least occasionally) finish games and get results.

Maybe I expect more from players like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper).

I know, but he is clearly annoyed by some posters content, so the next best thing is to ignore it and save the aggravation!! Or he can disagree and enunciate that (politely and rationally).

Seems like this is common view and whilst I understand people becoming disillusioned with the Wallabies not sure why it has to effect rugby in Australia. There's still plenty of rugby outside the Men's National side.

Unlike many here I was - still am - a Robbie Deans supporter. It isn't a friendly website to those that are, but there you are. I firmly believe the man is a talented rugby coach, an extremely hard worker, and a genuine gentleman who with decency from those around him could have seen us go into the RWC with a real prospect of winning. Hell, he all but achieved that last time notwithstanding the naysayers.

So it has been with no small sense of irony that I have seen the studied media manager McKenzie who played a role, if not a major one, in Dean's demise, suffer the same fate at an accelerated pace and at the hands of a player Deans had tried to nurture after that player's appalling behaviour at the Rebels.

I also had a low opinion of McKenzie's handling of the Dublin incident. I felt he was making an example of players who had done nothing of any note wrong simply to flex his muscles.

And I can't say I agree with Egerton going either. But, I did agree with the need for the coach to have control of these things. The ARU/Nucifora undermining of Deans had been nothing short of appalling and it was only right that McKenzie as Head Coach have the control over these things.

What I have seen in the past two weeks, the determined, continued, destabilisation and destruction of a coach who doesn't deserve it at the hands of players, agents, media and agenda wielders in NSW has been appalling. All over a foolish player who anyone with common sense can see needs to go.

Ewen has conducted himself with dignity at all points and I'm sorry to see him go. I won't, however, be sorry to see Beale go. Or any other player who can't see the bigger picture that is Australian rugby.

The difference between Deans and McKenzie is that McKenzie was smart enough to resign a week or two after he lost the dressing room. Whereas Deans stayed on for another 3 years.

The dressing room, and for that matter petty political rivalries, is the Achilles heel of Australian rugby.
