Not taking away from the sentiment of congratulations, there is a slight revision of history there.

McMahon played QLD and Aussie schools in grade 12, winning a swag of awards along the way. A few weeks later in some park footy warm up 7s tournament, playing for a some random team, he was identified by the Aussie 7s set up. By the end of the year he was contracted to and playing for the Aussie 7s at 17 and days after finishing high school (as a legitimate U17 player, not a repeater).

Like all 7s players (and why I think we still struggle) he kept seeking a 15s contract, unlike may of the other he received interest in the first year he was out of colts in QLD age groups.

Very few colts age backrowers get full Super Rugby contracts, and 7s is always going to pay more and over rule a academy spot. He was never in a chance to be in the Reds program as since he was in school, he has been contracted to the 7s program nor would he have taken a spot of our contracted back rowers, many of whom are only a year or two older (though I'd certainly have him over a few of them).

So really as far as forwards go McMahon would be up with Pocock and Gill in terms of their immediate success and professionalism post school. All three hold a "youngest" player record, but I think McMahon required few Super rugby caps to reach Wallaby level.
Junior Fakaosilea on a FT Reds contract at 19 is an achievement.

Yeh he has really come a long way in the last few years and as you say hes only 24. From memory he actually played as a blindside flanker (and occasional hooker) in HS and then made the proper transition to front row during his Colt days.
David played centre during his junior club rugby at Sunnybank. He even played 10 for me once in an U17's game, didn't pass or kick the ball once just hit hit up and made at least 20 metres every time. He's a good kid and he was always going to play prop and follow in his old mans footsteps.

If thats the u17s team I'm thinking of then you coached some good players. I believe Jake Shatz was also in that team? I must have got Feao mixed up with someone else then because I could have sworn he played in the backrow.

Souths have just announced the appointment of Nathan Nicol as the 2015 Premier Colts Head Coach .
Nathan has had a very successful playing career starting from Australian Schools, Waratahs Academy, Waratahs A and 8 years premier Grade in both Shute Shield NSW and Brisbane Premier Rugby.
Nathan’s knowledge of the game will help guide future Magpies to both Premier Grade and Professional Rugby.

Schatz didn't play U17's but did play in the team up until U16's, before I coached them. Feao played 12 up until going to BSHS for the last 2 years of school.

Any word on why Nathan gave up playing? He was a good player for GPS the last few years and hopefully he succeeds in coaching. A bit risky though throwing a young bloke straight out of playing and into coaching that level ofrugby.

That season start time isn't as bad as some people feared. Its only 2 weeks earlier than the 2014 season. I was hearing rumors of mid-Feb, that would have been horrible weather to play in!

If most teams choose to play the usual 3 trials matches, that's around second week of February. Water breaks will be players favourite time

I spoke to Nathan a few weeks ago and he informed me due to a few head knocks this season plus a few ongoing injury concerns he's hanging up the boots for now. I think he will make a fantastic coach but yes it is abit risky to be thrown in the deep end as prem colts head coach first up? Good luck to him!

mate, I was a Jnr Bulldog!!! All the way until Under 15s! It was a proximity thing.

Don't tell many people though.

The above was from twitter. They named all their coaches. Sadly, there wasn't many.

I believe they just named the head coaches for each team via twitter. However there is quiet a large and (from reports I have heard) impressive support staff.

EDIT: By Support I mean Assistant and S&C coaches.

They could do worse than make Gunn the Captain of the Qld U20s next year.

I think Placid is still eligible for U20 in 2015 who does he play for at National Champs - Vic?

Yep, Placid, if he's not in the Rebs 23 will play for the Vic/Southern States U20s or whatever Club he's allocated to.

Filth I understand that the new Assistant Coach at Easts for 2015 is Anthony Connellan.

Apparently highly rated in the school coaching game. Do you know much about him?

Would be great to see some more Nudgee OBs make their way down to Bottomley!!!
