Someone on Rebs twitter threw in Samo's name. He fits the criteria :)

Still Love Gregan's description of him - 'burnt palm tree'.

Samo is at the Rebels in 2015.

Somewhat bizarre announcement. I'd have been trying to get Lopeti Timani some game time at number 8 rather than importing a geriatric by professional rugby standards.

I am really surprised with that. I mean is was starting to fail by the end of his time at the Reds. Very loose, barely training. Not doing much at all.

Very odd. Some NRC loosies wouldve been better to consider.

Agree, thought we had enough cover in the backrow when you take into consideration that you expect Higgers and McMahon to play majority of the minutes when fit.

6) Colby/Fugi/Reid
7) McMahon/Jones/Higgers/Reid
8) Higgers/Timani/Samo

Thought another Lock would be more important

Jones
Neville

Cummins - Have not seen much of Cummins
Jefferies - Did not impress me in the NRC, don't think he is ready for Super Rugby

I might be wrong, but the Rebels squad seems on average quite young. Not a lot of old heads. Samo might be a good guy to have in the squad, experience wise. If he can get in shape I think they could get some value out of him, if only as an injury back-up.

Samo was a lock for the brumbies and sometimes the Reds. Makes more sense at his age that he's contracted for that position.

this is just a fucking ridiculous signing. i cannot see any upside and the one place we don't need any extra cover is the back row. we still need an extra super ready prop and more second row depth. i suppose DK could go back to the second row where he started but i am really bewildered, but then again considering some of the TT decisions last year perhaps not !

My guess is he will spend a lot of time helping Box Hill out, VRU/ARU needs Box Hill to be successful as them and Quins are the grounds they use the whole time.

From a marketing perspective I can see some value, Samo had a cult-like following, especially with some of the younger fans. Wouldn't be expecting a whole lot from him on the field but maybe having his face on a few billboards might get the memberships ticking over.

the rebels could give Ilie Tabua a start as well if they need the experience !
