What a difference since EOYT - and can understand why on reflection.

Cheika only come on board and little chance to select EOYT squad or make his mark. Cheika's influence as well as coaching staff additions like Larkham, Grey, and Ledesma (lot of credit goes to Cheika but probably not enough to his assistant coaches)

Then we have key players returning from injury like Pocock, Moore and Cooper

Then we have players coming back from Europe that have added real depth and experience to Wallabies squad like Giteau, Mumm, Mitchell, Douglas..I think many underestimate the value of their experience and wise rugby heads they bring

Then we have key players like Horwill finding their old raging form just in time for RWC (hopefully can say same about Cooper after tonight)

And lastly we finally seem to have found 4 props we can have start/finish that we feel are of international standard.

Praise the Lord...we might be about to hopefully see the start of a new dawn for Australian Rugby.

Amen

So I woke up at around 2am in a cold shiver.....I had a vivid dream that we were winning by 11 25 - 16 with 5 mins to go and then ffs they score an unconverted try and two penalties and won by 2 points. It was so real I even reached for my phone to check the time ... I told my wife about what happened in the morning and she gave me this look like I have some serious issues... I could not argue

FFS I love this time of the year.

Go Gold!!!!

yep, thats what everyone keeps saying, but, as any athlete at any level will attest to, once that 5th gear is gone, it's goddamn gone. No matter how "hard" you try. Look at Rodney Soiaolo. Lost 5th gear seemingly overnight. Jerry Collins too.

that's whats got me spooked, except with 6 or 7 guys in the team like that, under the exacting glare of the halogens they'll fail to muster the required wattage to power the turbines at this level

Plus, in the backs of their minds, there will be the comfort cushion of having also lost vs Aus.... just prior to winning RWC2011.

Everyone's been predicting the downfall of Ritchie for a while now (Qwerty for a bit longer than most). There is no doubt that age will catch everyone eventually, but is it really right now for McCaw, Read and Carter.

Read was World Player of the year only 2 years ago, Carter the year before that, McCaw the two years before that. I guess it sort of explains why they have tenure.

Imagine if the ABs scrape their way into a RWC final and Hanson pulls a Gatland and drops the old fogies for the big one. NZ would melt into the sea.

Only if we lost, if we won he'd be made President For Life by acclamation :)

Dismal has a point, though, in that this is starting to look scarily like 1991 revisited. Seem to recall losing in Sydney & the consensus being we were fucked; then scraping a win in Auckland & the consensus being maybe we're not fucked; then your lot bundling us out in Dublin en route to winning Bill. History never repeats but it surely can echo sometimes.....

Bit worried this wallabies team has a similar balance to the tahs S15 semifinal side - and we all know how that worked out.
Last week we lost the collisions as usual but picked a side to play to our strengths and dominated the breakdown.
This week we are trying to muscle up and have picked a side to try to compete in the areas that are the ABs traditional strengths. In doing so we have left the best player from last week on the bench, weakened our lineout even more and sacrificed the combinations which were are our strengths.
I just hope we are not too far behind when Cheiks is forced to bring on pocock and a third lineout jumper.

ABs 33-15. We won't be disgraced, but it'll be 2 quick tries they score late in the wet that get them home.

I wonder if sans golf club, cheika's resorting to quoting his favourite hard man movies to inspire confidence - "If it bleeds we can kill it" etc

I still looking where Richie has asked the crowd to boo QC (Quade Cooper), of course he wants the crowd on ABs side for fucks sake, it why teams like playing at home isn't it?? Can you remember when Suncorp was supposedly a fortress for Wallabies, because the crowd are close ,so can get stuck into either the opposition or cheering their team. Are any of you really stupid enough to think the players from either team are going to think they will influence how a good international player is going to play by him getting booed?? I have never seen it make a difference to a good player, and doubt I ever will. One of reasons I never bothered booing, because sure as shit if I thought it would help my team win I probably would, same as cheering them, that only helps the person doing cheering/booing enjoy themselves really. As Kieren Read said about playing at Ellis park, once you are playing it all only white noise, you don't really know who it's being directed at or whats been said. Funnily enough I was told that by my son when he was only about 9-10, he said even at that age you hardly heard what was being said because you busy playing and trying to do your job. Something confirmed by a ref, who never hears what is yelled at him.

Who do you think you're kidding - maybe fellow Kiwi posters here, but certainly not many others of us. That of course was precisely how the NZ crowds were calculating when they shamelessly. relentlessly, all of 80, booed QC (Quade Cooper), and his every touch of the ball, in RWC 2011.

That dark national neurosis was kicked off when they saw how threatening QC (Quade Cooper) was all of 2011 and began to contemplate the unthinkable that the boy from Tokoroa could return to dislocate the national sense of self for another four painful years. QC (Quade Cooper) then made the fatal mistake - the 'crime' of touching up HRH 'the embodiment of all that is good and that must never be sullied' - which then helpfully gave a sense of external legitimacy to the forthcoming acts of the dark side of the nation. QC (Quade Cooper) could be viciously harassed in the open, there was thank the heavens a good excuse to do it, and who better than HRH to provide it!

I've been to Auckland multiple times since 2011. This is remarkable: as soon as hotel staff, taxi drivers etc learn that I support the QLD Reds, many of them, quite sincerely and honestly, volunteer an apology to me regarding the way QC (Quade Cooper) was treated during the RWC, they say it was wrong, shouldn't have happened. So, this is not my imagination.

Now when HRH this very week encourages the EP crowd to do it all over again, to say that he sinks in my estimation, and that such an invocation was beneath him, is an understatement. NZ will be a better country when such conduct, and the perceived need for it, is never seen or heard of again.

Who said it was right to boo QC (Quade Cooper)?? I saying Quade is a good enough player to not let booing affect him, or if he isn't Cheika (or any coach) would not pick him!! I have never seen a player crumble because of booing, were you at Sunsorp when Wendell Sailor got roasted by crowd, I was and I thought he just played better. I said and I stick by it good players don't get effected by it. And I believe Quade's a good player. You believe what you want, and I'll believe what I have seen over the years.
