Pool D U15

WA 26 Bris White 13. BP win for WA.

Wasn't at game so cant comment.
Tough game closer than it sounds. Fair play to Wa for winning but they won't win any fans with their tactics. Rough, lots of late hits, another sin binning. One Wa try was definitely held up but the same ref who didn't excel in the Gold v Ippy game was at it again. WA penalised at least half a dozen times (and that's a low estimate) by captain not even spoken to let alone a binning.

White made same terrible choices in the second half and were leading at the break.

Does anyone know how semi/final locations are determined? Apologies if this has been discussed earlier

Not 100% sure but I have heard conflicting stories regarding the Pool A v Pool B semi-final. I was of the understanding that the team finishing higher on the 'combined' ladder would host the game. In the U15s, this would appear to be the ACT based on for and against. I then heard that because WNSW had more wins, the would host the game in Bathurst. Too add to the confusion, another source said the locations are based on the U17s table and the U15s follow.

I now realise I shouldn't have said "not 100% sure" - should have said "don't have a clue..." and left it at that. (Also I couldn't be bothered to check if there were any previous posts).

For WA to play 5 games in 7 days and to be in the semi-final for both the U15's and U17's is a wonderful effort and a testament to the preparation of the teams by the coaches and support staff as well as the players themselves. Can they last for 6 games in 8 days? Best of luck to both teams.

Playing the Semi Finals Tuesday night isn’t really ideal or fair for either Team, more a way to save the Union money maybe?

WA get one day grace before competing in there 6th Match in just over a week, Could have had a week rest & home advantage

Brisbane Teams will surely have players involved with either Met West or Met North School Boy u15 & u18 Rugby League trials. 4-5 games between 9am-3:30pm then a JGC Semi Final in the same day.

Oh to be young again.

Garry Owens: We don't want to spoil your side order of turd so please confirm: chicken or beef and do you have a nut or shell fish allergy. Regards WA

The only nut allergy I have is of the crushed nut variety

And given that we had a tie at the top of the table I think a small side order of turd is appropriate , or , perhaps a shit sandwich

Good luck to the men of the west in the Semi Final

Not sure how it's determined, but if U17 Brisbane beat WA at ballymore on Tuesday then the national finals, will be played on Easter Sunday at Suncorp as a curtain raiser to the Reds v Waratahs. No idea where it'll get played if WA win.

I agree with what your saying, but will add that White lost their way with mass changes throughout the game when they had a great rhythm building, continuous swapping in the forwards when they were holding their own pretty well and the big one for me was removing the starting halves, it went south big time after that, total mystery why this happened and White were lost, sorry to say but the boys who stared were playing really well and should have been left on as nothing really happened for White after they came off. In the end several starters were throw back in, but way to late in the game for mine.

I agree with your comment that WA "won't win any fans with their tactics"as imo it seemed that WA players were out to win at any cost. Whatever was said by their coaches at half time, the WA players came on the field in the 2nd half even more focussed on tactics to win no matter what...was it 4 white players came off injured in the 2nd half. Stop Brisbane City White getting a bonus point. Totally understand referees have a tough job, but unfortunately for this game the referee imo appeared to not have control of the players & therefore the game. Incidences of late hits in the 1st half unnoticed by referee and number increased in 2nd half and still no action by the referee. Referee appeared to speak with captains late in 2nd half....all too late for the injured White players. No matter which teams were playing not good for the game of rugby or sportsmanship.

This is not the first case of a ref losing control of a game in this competition. The Sunshine Coast Downs game 2 weeks ago was a case in point. The ref was inexperienced and should never been in charge of the game, as admitted later by some senior refs who saw the game. The second half turned into a total farce with the game ending in a brawl caused through frustration.

These kids playing in this comp deserve better and should be shown some respect in regards to referee appointments.

The standard of refereeing in the matches I have seen in Pool B has been pretty good and fairly consistent over the five games.

Foul play (late hits x 3, shoulder charges x 1 and high shots x 1) has been punished appropriately with a yellow card. The late hits seem prevalent as a means for the boys to square the ledger - not condoning the behaviour, but unless you're out in the middle you cannot put yourself in the players boots. Only seen one red card, which seemed fair. The player milked the penalty but the boy carded had been cautioned earlier in the match.

Other yellows have been a result of repeated infringements at the breakdown, all deserved (not necessarily for the boy who got the card).

A few short arm penalties for scrums going beyond the 1-1.5 metre push.

I noticed that the referees are miked up and the assistant referees are providing input especially with offside play. My only criticism is that some times the calls have no impact on play.

One case of backchat was dealt with by advancing the mark 10 metres.

All in all the penalties awarded were no different from any other game of rugby. Just depends on which way the referee is pointing as to whether it is good or bad.

Southern Conference final between Western NSW and ACT in U15s will be played at CSU in Orange. The U17s match between Met West and ACT will be played at Concord Oval.

It’s easy to point fingers at refereeing standards and as you mentioned “WA's Stop Brisbane getting a bonus point" tactics . Yes the WA boys do/did play hard as they had a stinker of a schedule plus it was a must win game FOR BOTH TEAMS. I am pretty sure that the Brisbane White players aren't all angels either. :)

Observation 1: There were some existing injuries to Brisbane White star players (see your and Mr_Trash's comments on pg +-90 of this thread). Without any specifics can we not attribute some of the “4” injuries to pre-existing injuries, also it was game 5 of the pool games?

Observation 2: I saw footage and +_ 17 mins into 2nd half White return a poor clearance kick from inside their 1/4. WA retrieved the ball near the center spot, a WA player ran down the right hand side of the field. A BrisW player tried to tackle the WA player, had poor body position and you can clearly see that his head was on the wrong side of the tackle. He went down injured and taken off the field. WA also got a penalty as White infringed at the breakdown point. Is this also one of the “4” injuries mention in your post?

Observation 3: Your " WA’s don’t let Brisbane get a bonus point" opinion is not all correct. WA had to win and either team had to get a bonus point. Do the permutations and you will see that if WA had won and Brisbane got a bonus pt (ie loss by 7pts or less) then WA would have won pool based on elimination rules. Three teams on 19pts, three head to head winners and WA on a larger Pts Diff.

As others have previously mentioned Bris W made some poor tactical decisions and this plus being a pressure must win game for both could have contributed to the end result.

Shout out to the White team, who had a good crack at WA on Sunday, remember boys you took it up to a state team and went toe to toe for a good part of the game, for mine 9 and10,7,12,3 and 2 were very good, but really, a well played game by all.
To Gold, best of luck, your going to have to play hard for 60min to knock WA off, they are very tough, looking forward to seeing the game tonight, fingers crossed for you all.
