JR Henderson Shield - Third Grade
Eastwood 136 Penrith 0

Henderson Cup - Fourth

That was a sad day for Sydney Rugby. Some of the thought bubbles that cropped up in the media this were even sadder based on their lack of understanding of the issues facing Grass Roots Rugby west of Camperdown.

Fortunately most of the more silly of those ideas appear to have been abandoned.

Definitely was an improvement on last year.

All rebuilding takes time, and their getting a couple of tries in against the heavy hitters.

Even the longest journey starts with a single step.

Sure, but the Emus first step was in 1995 -- 21 years ago.

There have been a few forward steps over the years, but the club's on field performances have been mainly going backwards for the last 5-6 years.

Yep definitely an improvement. Kicking off the season with Randwick, The Corporation and Eastwood is never going to be pretty for Penrith. At least we've actually scored some tries in the last three rounds against the above teams.

Holloway is another example of SS providing a pathway.
I could list a number of NSW SS players now playing off shore that could possibly out play the current Tahs back line.

Did Meekes play enough Shute Shield to count as one Dave? I keep an eye on Gloucester due to Laidlaw, and he's been one that I've enjoyed watching whenever he plays. Know he got a 7s cap or 3, then played Nat 1 in England before joining them, don't know enough else about him.

He played enough for Nths for me to know who he is and rate him - a strong player.
Think he should be Manly because his old man is Manly.
Zack Holmes is another one who i hear is doing alright.

Haven't played the Wicks yet, John.
That's next weekend.

Early days, but after 3 rounds it's the usual suspects in the top 5 and the bottom 4 look like they are going to struggle again this year. Norths, Rats and Easts are all TBA at this stage. I still think (as I did before the season started) that the SS winner will come from Woods, Manly, or Southern with Wicks and Uni the dark horses.

Hope I'm wrong -- it would be great to see some of the strugglers from recent seasons making the playoffs (but not at the Wicks expense of course ;)).

Don't count us out yet coach.

We have a very a solid forward pack as shown against the Wix

Once our backs gel.And stop the silly errors . Dropping the ball over the try line against WH. And trying to run the ball out from inside our own try line
( emphasis on the trying).

We will start to rack up some wins.

My bad. I thought it was Randwick in round one but it was Gordon. So their tough start continues. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I think I'm following too many competitions :)

Emotional win against Buildcorp/The Students/ The Corporation. Some people suggested that we didn't have the cattle this year, and that we had blokes who weren't prepared to do the hard yards. I think it's fair to say that we're back, and ready to give this competition a shake.
In relation to Tom Carter, he is a character and we should appreciate him while he is still running around. He gives as good as he gets. He has been a loyal servant to NSW rugby for many years, and deserves our respect. I get sick of people logging on here and taking pot shots at him, time to move on, he is a stalwart and a legend of our game in this state.

Ah Tummy Carter,
What happens on the field stays on the field - above board fair sledging is part of the game, and maybe a way to get on top of your opposition.
After the game, it's good times and I've only heard good things about him.

I've written several posts in the past supporting Tom so I wasn't taking a potshot -- just calling it as I saw it. There are better centres in Uni's 2nd and 3rd grade with more to offer IMO. Maybe legends should retire gracefully before they embarass themselves.
