And I'm not all that sure that pensioners should retain their former international PP loading as well, but for every Freier who is well past their International prime but still playing club footy, and doing a great job mentoring and inspiring the young'uns, there is a Radike Samo, Brad Thorn or Victor Matfield who would be older than them and still playing pro footy, and they would be worth double whatever PP assigned to them if they were running around Rat Park, or TG Millner.

I think 3 minutes of 4th Grade footy should not count as being one of the four rounds played with the club during the Minor premiership series (Rule 33.2a of the SRU competition rules on Finals Series eligibility).

While technically correct, 3 minutes of 4th Grade footy counting as a round played appears to be about as cynical a manipulation of the intent of the competition rules as Paddy Ryan playing 10 minutes of 2nd Grade Footy in order to come on in First Grade as a Fresh Reserve worth 0 player points.

I look forward to reading the Commentariat's view on this. Presumably they will be consistent, but then I can have unrealistic expectations at times.

Is it common practice for a player to play a cameo in lower grade just to comply with the "minimum of four rounds during the Minor Premiership series" rule?

Forgive my ignorance but has Locke ever played rugby before?
If not, then what's the point of just playing 3 minutes in 4th grade to qualify for the finals? Surely he needs to play as much as possible to learn the game, unless he's injured of course.

To answer your question HJ, maybe the qualification needs to be 4 rounds and a minimum number of total minutes across the 4 rounds, but then you get into the injury problem ie he would have played but he got injured. It seems no matter what rules there are the devious club coaches will find the loopholes and exploit them wherever possible. Southern have a history of this when they started the finals matches a few years ago with Marcus Heather in the front row to stay below the PP target and then replaced him with Tim Metcher after a few minutes (as Southern's 2nds weren't in the finals he didn't count as a fresh reserve).

One mans exploiting loopholes is another mans complying with the competition rules.

HJ could you point me in the right direction to access a copy of the SRU Competition Rules. Had a bit of a google and cant find a thing.

Can somebody point me to a bit more information about the PPs? I'm new to Sydney this year and my (low) base of understanding has been that Clubs such as Uni & Randwick have had no shortage of current, former & budding professionals and it's never been an issue...

Sadly was at the accountant late so missed Eddie dropping in to training. What a legendary coach/bloke who has proved all of his doubters wrong.

Ha ha - that's rich, coming from a Randwick supporter!! And how does a lone example from 'a few years ago' constitute 'a history'?!?!

Because history is "the study of past events, particularly in human affairs". And it wasn't a lone example as there was another one last Saturday. Sure all clubs have probably done it, I was just pointing out another example to support the one HJ referred to. I'm happy to concede that the Wicks have been at fault in the past also eg Drew Mitchell running on for about 3 seconds in 4th grade a few years ago in an attempt to qualify him for the finals whilst he was injured --- it didn't work as he didn't recover from the injury.

I understand what you're saying coach, but I think there's a significant difference between 'History' (the field of study) and 'a history' which, in this case, was more suggestive of a consistent pattern of (mis)behaviour. It was good of you, though, to concede that the 'wicks have also been at fault in this regard.

If you follow the link above and if you are lucky the Dropbox link in the first post on that thread will still be active for a link to the SRU competition rules. If the document is still there, be aware that the version has been superseded with a few minor changes here and there but as Dennis Denuto says "It's the vibe".

I am no fan of Eastwood, but I think Tom Hill played in 2 of their premiership teams. Maybe a woodies fan could say if he has dropped off the pace so dramatically this year.

Yes true but it's been Eastwood's choice to play him in those 2nd grade games preferring Blake Sutton and Michael McDougall in the centres for a period.

Thanks very much, clears it up a little but I still can't find if there's any limit per team, per game

The max PP limits per grade are all detailed in the notes following rule 7.

The main change for 2016 from the legacy rules is that there is no provision for players who played lower grade being at 0 player points. Even if a bench player has played 80 minutes in 2nd grade, their PP count for 1st Grade Cap as if they were a "Fresh Reserve".
